Place of birth

edit

This article refers to Tiki's place of birth as Roanoke, Virginia. This is not true, and I have been repeatedly rebuffed when attempting to change it. The Barber twins were born at Montgomery Regional Hospital in what is now Blacksburg, VA. This information can be found in hundreds of places, among them:

http://allday.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2007/05/03/179709.aspx http://www.nndb.com/people/943/000107622/ http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1580903/ http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1707716/ http://www.hollywoodupclose.com/celebrity-Tiki+Barber

There are sources that say Roanoke, but this is because the Barber twins grew up there and are so strongly associated with the city, which is only 40 miles away from Blacksburg. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.194.4.21 (talk) 17:00, 20 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ronde's entry is finally correct, but Tiki's has been changed back to say Roanoke. I'm changing it to correctly say Blacksburg. Future edits should be disallowed or corrected. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wfredmason (talkcontribs) 22:07, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

This again? They were born in Blacksburg. This is a settled fact. See the sources above. It doesn't matter what place they are "associated with", the site lists place of birth and that is Blacksburg - Montgomery Regional Hospital. I am changing it back. Records

edit

There are two problems with the Tiki Barber article. First, he set a New York Giants' TEAM record on Dec. 17, 2005 by rushing for 220 yards. Second, NFL season are one year terms. Although the playoffs are in the next year, they're still considered the same year as regular season. So, which year did he adopt the new technique for reducing fumbles, '04 or '05? I appreciate your time! ~~

I addressed everything you talked about. Hope it helps.  RasputinAXP  talk contribs 12:38, 19 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Anyone got a free-source image for the template box?--Toffile 07:41, 1 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Huh, I added a picture before i read your comment. I pulled his pic from the Giants site as fairuse-promo, which should be fine. If we can find a better one, that'd be pretty slick. I need to get to a home game and bring my camera with me.  RasputinAXP  talk contribs 17:14, 1 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Looks good. I was having trouble finding one last night.--Toffile 18:18, 1 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Too much info about this season...

edit

You should add in his career details, including him sharing the ball with Ron Dayne and being a rebirth of thunder and lightning in the league. Also, you failed to mention to put his three 200 yard performences in one season is an NFL record.

Tiki's three 200-yard games in a season are actually second to Earl Campbell, who had four in 1980. -GetAMac

NFL Career

I added much more info about him, I was in a rush and didn't mind my grammar, so please correct as you see fit.

When you cite Marshall Faulk and Dante Hall (????) Dante Hall was a kick returner...never a running back.

College career/life

edit

Something should be posted about his stay at UVA. Not just athletics either.

High School Stats

edit

These numbers must be off: "In football, he was named to the all-district team three times, gaining 368 yards on 567 carries and scoring 41 touchdowns."

That would imply less than 1 yard per carry. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 12.216.244.172 (talk) 05:12, 31 December 2006 (UTC).Reply

Corrected the number; it's actually 3,628 yards. Fethers 05:21, 31 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

James Barber

edit

"A standout player at the University of Virginia from 1993-97, James also played in the old World League of American Football." How could James have played at UV in 1993-97? Impossible. -- 75.34.242.51 00:52, 8 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Next time, go back and fix it yourself. Fethers 20:08, 8 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

James is now a Hospice Minister in Tulsa, OK.

Coughlin's Impact on Retirement Decision

edit

Does anyone have a source for the Coughlin being the cause of Barber's retirement? Last night Bill O'Reilly interviewed Tiki and he said it was really only because the game was "brutal" and he didn't want to get beat up anymore. Arnabdas 15:26, 11 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Crum?

edit

In the Childhood section there is a sentence that says, "Growing up, Tiki always had a big crum" I can't make any sense of the use crum, nor can I find a definition that is not related to crumbs. The wikiepedia entry for crum is related to non-practicing jews. Can anyone define? Angrymansr 14:53, 28 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

How do we know

edit

That picture is Tiki Barber and not Ronde Barber?--70.134.102.176 02:10, 18 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

crum! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.47.125.136 (talk) 07:10, 3 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Pakistani

edit

The cited source says nothing about Barber's supposed Pakistani heritage. Neither did a quick Google search. Unless someone can justify the assertion, I will delete it to conform with the cited interview. (talk) 22:31, 13 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Place of birth 2

edit

If you look at the top of the discussion, under "place of birth" you'll see several sources indicating that Tiki Barber's place of birth is Blacksburg, VA. This change has been accepted for Ronde's page. It should be reflected on this one. http://allday.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2007/05/03/179709.aspx http://www.nndb.com/people/943/000107622/ http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1580903/ http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1707716/ http://www.hollywoodupclose.com/celebrity-Tiki+Barber —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wfredmason (talkcontribs) 17:57, 28 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I could find just as many sources putting his birthplace at Roanoke, including (but not limited to) NFL.com. However, in the interest of preventing an edit war over something this trivial, I will keep it as Blacksburg to stay in sync with Ronde's page. Wushupork (talk) 13:07, 14 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Neutrality

edit

I happened to notice that this article mentions a number of controversial comments Barber has made or some controversies he was involved in without giving his side of the story. For example, when Barber said that Eli Manning's leadership was "comical", he explained on Howard Stern that what he meant was that Manning often engaged in comical antics and liked to lead the team through humor. However, his rebuttals like this are not present in the article, so I am going to have to tag it for neutrality. 69.14.36.184 (talk) 00:46, 17 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Controversy Should Be Mentioned Earlier

edit

It seems like the Barber controversy of leaving his pregnant wife for the intern is buried pretty deep in the article. Since that had a major effect on his career (knocking him out of the Today show job, turning him into the butt of jokes, and pretty much driving him out of television for a couple of years), seems like it should be mentioned in the lede. 74.128.79.116 (talk) 22:48, 8 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

While his affair drew a good deal of controversy, I can't find any reliable sources that contribute his TV career downfall to it. According to most sources, he left the Today Show because he apparently wasn't cut out for it. The only sources suggesting a link between his TV career and the affair are unreliable tabloids and pop culture media such as Daily Mail and Variety magazine, not appropriate to use as sources for a biography of a living person.
