Ongoing Editing

edit

Hello! I am a student editor from Texas A&M University and will be working on this article for the next few weeks as part of my work for a Technical and Professional Editing course. Some issues I would like to address and hopefully remedy through my work:

  • The entirety of this article's content is listed underneath one heading: Biography. I plan on going through the content and separating it into relevant categories, such as Early Life and Education, Religious Work, Arrest and Death, etc.
  • The content is poorly written, and needs heavy editing for grammar and clarification.
  • The information needs to be logically restructured, and several points are not needed and should be removed for clarity.
  • The tone of the article needs to be fixed as well. It gives less of an encyclopedic presence, and sounds like a personal essay.

Please feel free to respond with any questions or concerns you may have about my work! Frashid01 (talk) 23:47, 1 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Editing Commentary:

  • (03/23/21): I have begun making substantial changes to this article. First, I decided to take the entire biography section and divide it into new sections: Early Life and Education, Religious Work, and Arrest and Death. This was to help me focus on the information better, and find a logical flow to order the information in. After the content was organized into each respective section, I decided to first do light copyediting with grammatical mistakes, sentence structure, phrasing, and adding links to relevant articles. I have completed the copyediting for the Early Life and Education section as of today, and will continue to edit each section. After I've completed the copy edits I plan to go over each section in more depth and figure out how to include more citations and catch mistakes in tone. • (03/25/21): I've completed my first round of copyediting for the rest of the sections. My edits mainly consisted of rearranging information for better flow and clarity, omitting insignificant or unclear details, and editing for grammar. After reviewing for any mistakes on my end, I will attempt to create citations. It's very hard to find sources on Tolstoy; so far I've found one article and I'm not entirely sure how reliable it is. It seems like there isn't a lot of information on him on the internet, but I will continue to try and search for reliable backing. Frashid01 (talk) 22:45, 25 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • (03/25/21): After a thorough scour of the internet, I still cannot find reliable sources on Nicholas Tolstoy (did this guy even exist?!). Every webpage I've found has just been a copied version of this article, or is referencing a different individual. I chose to cite an article written by the University of Notre Dame, as it contains and confirms much of the original biographical information. It is a bit disappointing to not be able to cite this as properly as it should be, but I am determined to rework this article to the best of my ability.
