Untitled
editThere's a mistake here with the title of this article: It should simply be "Maria Pacheco" as this is what is recorded, and as it is not a Spanish tradition, as in other European countries like England and France, for the woman to take her husband's name. Please see the Spanish article.

edit- since her father is mentioned in the lead, it'd be good to name & link him. ... sawyer * he/they * talk 19:24, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- the archive.org link for Fink De Backer 2004 isn't working for me; it says "item cannot be found" ... sawyer * he/they * talk 21:49, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
- source check:
all of the sources look excellent in terms of quality/reliability; published by academic publishers, etc. i'd love to see the sources listed in the further reading section used, but i won't ask you to learn Spanish for this project haha.
i found Fink De Backer on google books, and spot-checked both it and Fleming 2018 - everything came up good! ... sawyer * he/they * talk 05:42, 5 June 2024 (UTC)- I'm actually fluent in Spanish. The reason I didn't use the books is because I don't have easy access to paginated copies; I have access to some as ebooks, but they lack page numbers; others I can only find in libraries hundreds of kilometres away. I could add info from the RAH source, but it would mostly be trivial additions, most of it is already in here. --Grnrchst (talk) 08:16, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- in terms of copyvio, no issues found.
- i quite like the prose style, it's very engaging.
- MOS is all good.
- no issues with broadness or focus; all the major aspects of what i'd expect from a biography are there, and it doesn't go into too much obscure detail.
- the article is neutral enough, discussing both the contemporary negative views of Pacheco and more modern reinterpretations of her legacy.
... sawyer * he/they * talk 19:24, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- only just noticed this, because i hadn't looked too much at the infobox - the infobox gives her death location as Porto, and her resting place as Porto Cathedral, but this isn't mentioned in the body. that'd be a good thing to get sorted out. ... sawyer * he/they * talk 19:26, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- where possible, i'd like to see dates & artists' names in the image captions, but that's more of an informal suggestion on my part than anything with the GA criteria. no issues with the images generally. ... sawyer * he/they * talk 19:40, 5 June 2024 (UTC)

- Comment – I will review this nomination. – Editør (talk) 09:39, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- Review – The article is new enough (passed as GA on 6 June 2024), long enough (12000+ characters of prose), has no copyright issues, and is presentable (both per Talk:María Pacheco/GA1). The originally proposed hook is cited and interesting. Although the linked source is not available without an account, I was able to confirm the information by other sources [1] [2], so I don't see an issue here. I want to propose an alternative that focuses more on María Pacheco instead of her husband and avoids changing 'Toledo' into the modern 'Toledo, Spain', let me know if there are any issues with ALT4 before I pass it. – Editør (talk) 10:45, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- ALT4 ... that María Pacheco led the Revolt of the Comuneros in the Kingdom of Toledo after the death of her husband?
- No issues with ALT4, although I personally think ALTs 1, 2 and 3 are more interesting. --Grnrchst (talk) 12:48, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- Ok. I also thought ALT2 was interesting, but I couldn't find an alternative source for this to confirm this information; do you have one? And I would propose to change it to remove the modern 'Spanish' and the article 'the' because there were more leaders into: – Editør (talk) 12:59, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- ALT5: ... that 16th-century chroniclers thought María Pacheco, a leader of the Revolt of the Comuneros, was a witch?
- Good point about dropping the apocryphal use of "Spanish", I think ALT5 looks good as well. Here's the direct quote from Fleming 2018, p. 270:
--Grnrchst (talk) 13:19, 23 June 2024 (UTC)Her actions drew the ire of contemporary chroniclers, who depict her as a tyrannical virago. Having earlier commented that she dominated her marriage as the “husband of her husband,” Martire links her protagonism to madness, and even to demonic possession; Santa Cruz relates it to witchcraft. Like Juana’s moriscas in earlier days, Pacheco’s were looked upon askance. Fray Guevara describes Pacheco working with a “mad” slave or “great witch,” who stoked her ambitions.
- pass ALT5. – Editør (talk) 13:21, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
