User-chosen names for the character

edit

I was surprised the article doesn't mention that in most games of the series, indeed all games (as far as I know) before Breath Of The Wild, the character's name is chosen by the player when creating their character, so that in a normal play-through of a Zelda game you are not necessarily playing as a character called Link but as yourself, or at least, as a character with a name chosen by you. Of course, the player can choose to call themselves the default, "Link" and many did. But, there was a practical reason not to do so: sharing the game with others - your name identified your saved game slot, too. mmj (talk) 07:04, 30 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Mmj actually it is mentioned in the analysis section. We could add it in the characterisation, I suppose, but we would need a reliable source. Fieryninja (talk) 07:32, 30 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Request

edit

Could someone please check this article for English variant consistency? I edited this page to include a "Use British English" template, before my edit was promptly reverted by the user Ferret, and then restored upon their finding that the article wasn't checked for consistency. I deducted that the article was in British English due to a lot of squiggly red underlines underneath British variants of words (recognisable, characterisation, colour, etc.) as I use Microsoft Edge and am in the United States. I don't want to mess up anything, as I have already been noticed before for altering variants of English, so could someone check to make sure the entire article is in British English for me? Thanks! I initially checked for "armor" and found it, and was too hasty in reverting. I then found that many other words however were in their British spelling and "armor" was an outlier, so decided to restore the tag. -- ferret (talk) 03:54, 8 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Makes sense to me. Thanks. Antrotherkus (Talk to me!) 03:59, 8 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Reception

edit

@Greenish Pickle! @Fieryninja Just because this is a character article and not video game. Reception section should only talk about the character achievements and impact. Not unnecessary details about video games.

Good example: "As the mascot of The Legend of Zelda series, Link has become a widely recognisable character in pop culture."

It discusses about the character and its impact in pop culture.

Bad example: "The original The Legend of Zelda video game influenced the evolution of the action role-playing video game genre, being an early example of open world design and nonlinear gameplay. The series has inspired numerous other game titles to adopt a similar action-adventure gameplay and open world exploration, with these games being commonly referred to as Zelda clones."

It tells nothing about the character itself but only video games and unnecessary stuff that isn't related to the character at all. Kazama16 (talk) 08:36, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Did you realize that this article went on to be GA reviewed by a very experienced reviewer? And you also removed a source like this [1] that definitely talks about the character. Ironically, this source [2] you've used somehow talked about Mario? GreenishPickle! (🔔) 08:42, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Did you even fully read my sentences, also this source isn't related to legacy nor reception. Just a gender thing that's it? Kazama16 (talk) 08:48, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
The discussion about the character's gender was a major talking point at one time and is certainly pertinent to the reception, being the player character. Fieryninja (talk) 08:53, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
"Just a gender thing that's it?" Okay buddy. I think there's no reason to waste our precious time here. GreenishPickle! (🔔) 08:55, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Alright what about "The original The Legend of Zelda video game influenced the evolution of the action role-playing video game genre, being an early example of open world design and nonlinear gameplay. The series has inspired numerous other game titles to adopt a similar action-adventure gameplay and open world exploration, with these games being commonly referred to as Zelda clones." Personally I think it adds the context for the following point about him being one of the most celebrated console heroes. Remember this is a character with a very long history and this influence is part of his legacy. Fieryninja (talk) 09:00, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Removed the context, now it makes no sense

edit

Sergecross73 now that the context has been removed from the paragraph, it literally makes no sense. Which characters could be switched? We don't know because it has been removed. Fieryninja (talk) 20:02, 28 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Then maybe it needs to be reworked then? The role/gender stuff is a valid topic, but I don't know why we have such a long, rambling quote by Nintendo in the reception section. It's not even a good quote. It's long and light on substance. Sergecross73 msg me 20:32, 28 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough. Hopefully that's settled. Fieryninja (talk) 20:42, 28 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I'm good with that. Thank you. Sergecross73 msg me 21:12, 28 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello

edit

I removed the language tag (English only) because the article is in English (obviously, am I dumb lmao) so it makes no sense to put the language tag of English since the casual readers already know that the websites are in English just by looking at the title. 39.50.246.233 (talk) 13:13, 10 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
