Helm's death

edit

Anyone know of a source for the claim that Helm died in action fighting Native Americans? This claim has been a part of the article since it was created by an anonymous user back in August 2004. I've yet to find confirmation of it. It certainly sounds plausible, but we need a reliable published source. Thanks! —Kevin Myers 22:04, 23 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

William English's Conquest... says he died in the Spring of 1782, at or near Louisville, KY. That's all I've found. I'll keep looking. Mingusboodle 22:19, 5 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I found this image (woodcarving) of Leonard Helm in Yesterday's Indiana by Byron L. Troyer, pg 25. Perhaps the original author meant it to represent Helm, but it's very anachronistic. The hat, jacket, and pants, as well as the beard, are 19th century styles. I'm not comfortable putting it in the article, but it's the first representation of Capt. Helm that I've seen. Sections

edit

The article seemed just long enough to deserve sections, but it was hard to find good "splitting" places, because the majority of this article describes events which took place within a one-year period. I used subsections ( === ) to create headers for the main events, but I won't be offended if someone wants to revert or redo the sections. Mingusboodle (talk) 17:23, 8 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
