Death

edit

Sunyol's death is listed by this page as being in an ambush, but according to at least two sources (Jimmy Burns Barca: a people's passion and Barcelona's official website) he was stopped by a roadblock and taken prisoner before he was executed. Whether this constitutes an "ambush" or not is, I suppose, somewhat up to the interpretation of unknown events. From the Barcelona official site: "But Josep Sunyol’s brilliant career was cut short in tragic fashion on August 6, 1936, when as part of his political activities, the Barça president visited Republican troops near to Madrid. Without noticing, his car entered a zone controlled by Frano’s [sic] troops in Sierra de Guadarrama. Sunyol was identified and arrested, and without trial, he and his colleagues were shot dead on the spot." [1]
