1737 or 1738? Any reliable source out there??? User:Ejrrjs says What? 22:31, 6 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

He's listed on the Boston Irish Heritage Trail. According to them, he was born in Boston on July 3, 1737. [1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by MopTop (talkcontribs) 16:43, 7 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Head of a Man portrait

edit

Can we add "Head of a Man" That's probably his best one. All that other commissioned stuff was for money. TriniTriggs 01:39, 12 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

added Head of a Man to the article gallery - Epousesquecido (talk) 01:47, 9 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

So works commissioned for money aren't artistically valid? There goes the Renaissance. (VENICEMENACE) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.20.56.29 (talk) 01:47, 5 May 2006‎ (UTC)Reply

Copley wasn't an American!

edit

If he was born to Irish parents in a time when America as a country didn't exist and if he went to live in London before the American declaration of independence, then how can he still be an American??? The nationaity should be changed to Irish or British. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.183.11.165 (talk) 21:31, 18 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

The article doesn't claim that he held United States citizenship. However, being born in North America and having spent a large portion of his life there certainly lends appropriateness to the adjective "American." 71.219.205.24 (talk) 13:18, 17 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Re: Deletion of Copley images under heading "other works". Are there wiki guidelines for how many images should be in a gallery for an artist? if there is a limit, are their guidelines for inclusion.--Hantsheroes (talk) 16:08, 24 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

I suppose WP:IG gives a general idea. In my experience, galleries should be concise and relevant. Copley executed around 200 paintings and sketches; naturally, the gallery should only include a small fraction, with the rest kept on Commons. Precisely which should be in the gallery is, of course, open to debate. I'd say the gallery should include the better-known ones, which is a little subjective, given there's no handy source listing his major works. (At least none that is at hand for me.) Most of those in the gallery at present probably fall into the category. Michael and Susannah Francklin likely do not, but feel free to persuade us otherwise. - Biruitorul Talk 16:18, 24 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
That's helpful clarification. Makes sense.--Hantsheroes (talk) 16:51, 24 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Loyalist?

edit

He has been added to Category:Loyalists in the American Revolution. However, the article says nothing about his position on the American Revolution. Some information on this topic would be an interesting addition, and is needed to back up the categorization. 71.219.205.24 (talk) 13:22, 17 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
