Fiat Automobiles → FIAT – Per MOS:CAPSACRS, in reality, "FIAT" is an acronym for "Italian Automobiles Factory, Turin", which, in Italian, is "Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino". • Oppose as per the IP - Also Jaguar Cars, Ford Motor Company, Hyundai Motors all are listed under the official names (instead of them being Jaguar, Ford, Hyundai) so IMHO an RFC should be made on a Car-related Wikiproject and that we get consensus for all articles not just one, Anwyay oppose per COMMONNAME. –Davey2010^Talk 10:59, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
  • That would be because there are other equally notable meanings for Jaguar, Ford (which I'm honestly not sure should redirect to the motor company, given the river crossing) and Hyundai. But the car company is the primary topic for Fiat. -- Necrothesp (talk) 15:03, 6 May 2020 (UTC)

• Support — The last discussion of this (above) had too few participants, and got hung up on the title FIAT in all caps, which is a separate issue, and yes, the MOS would render it as Fiat, not FIAT, but otherwise any argument that Fiat Automobiles is correct per COMMONNAME is misguided. Preferring Fiat is a textbook example of the common name guideline. Nobody uses the term "Fiat Automobiles", everyone just says Fiat, even the most formal reliable sources. Any arguments that Fiat Automobiles is the "official" name are irrelevant. What has to go on legal documents matters not at all for Wikipedia. It should have been Fiat from day 1 and never should have been moved. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 21:58, 17 May 2020 (UTC)
• Support. It's known worldwide as Fiat. The actual official name is FIAT which is an abbreviation and not a word, but no one ever calls it that. There is even a Finnish joke saying "Osta Fiat, siinä on kaikki viat", meaning "Buy a Fiat, it has all the faults". It wouldn't work with the abbreviation. JIP | Talk 00:16, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

Sorry about that, my cursor must have slipped, I meant it (the rationale per WP:COMMONNAME) to be part of my own comment. Saying it was the official name is different from saying it is. 94.21.252.238 (talk) 01:39, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

• Support as per COMMONNAME, Also yes I was wrong to previously !Oppose per COMMONNAME - I was simply trying to get a main RFC going for all manufacturers (IE Ford, Hyundai, etc etc etc) and had to oppose for something, Anyway they've always been referred to as Fiat commonly IRL and online, Easy support. –Davey2010^Talk 00:23, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
