St. George's Hill

edit

Is there any chance someone could work in that the Diggers would not have called St. George's Hill by that name? They did not recognize saints and therefore called it simply "George Hill." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.12.120.61 (talk) 23:22, 21 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

The result of the move request was: close as No consensus . The oppose side as well as the keep side both have strong points. Better to close this as no consensus reached. (non-admin closure) Megan Barris (Lets talk📧) 08:27, 31 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

DiggersDiggers (radicals)WP:ASTONISH, no primary topic for the plural form per WP:PLURALPT which says that the plural normally goes to the singular or at least a DAB. Similar to Cuts, Dockers and Threads the plural should redirect to the singular DAB Digger per WP:DABCOMBINE. Views[[1]] show that this article has 5,952 views but Diggers (theater) has 1,594, Excavator has 11,856 and Chopper (motorcycle) has 6,166. Google shows all but 1 result (this WP article) even from England. Images shows nothing other than excavators and Books also shows most results for excavators and doesn't appear to show anything for this topic. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:58, 14 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Protestants

edit

Just a note on labelling the Diggers "Protestants": this is very problematic. Winstanley certainly didn't define himself as a Protestant, and wrote in opposition to the churches of his time - see https://www.diggers.org/diggers/religion_winstanley.htm for an overview of the secondary literature on this. Regardless of one's exact interpretation of it, he was quite explicit on the apostate status of the present churches, including Protestant ones.

Title

edit

"Digger movement" might be a better title for this article, given its usage in sources. (not watching, please {{ping}}) czar 07:50, 24 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
