Image question

edit

The image currently used in the article is from a 1955 Bowman card that is in the public domain. A much crisper version of the identical image is available on the NFL web site here. If the crisper version is likewise public domain, it would make sense to use it instead. Given that one image is derivative of the other, it seems unlikely that one could be PD and the other copyright protected. If anyone has an answer to this query, it would be appreciated. Inaccuracies

edit

Two inaccuracies about Stanfel have been repeated and perpetuated, sometimes in reliable sources. First, there is the assertion that he served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during WWII. In fact, Stanfel's military service did not occur until a couple years after the war had ended (c. 1947-1948), and his service was as a signal corpsman. Second, there is the assertion that he played on the undefeated 1951 San Francisco Dons football team. In fact, Stanfel played for USF from 1948 to 1950. He was drafted by the Lions in January 1951, signed with the Lions that spring, sustained a serious injury in a scrimmage in August 1951, and missed the entire 1951 season. Let's be careful not to let these inaccuracies find their way into the Wikipedia article. Cbl62 (talk) 18:43, 8 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
