This article was created with indication that it was copied from the public domain DNB. Evaluation following from contributor copyright investigation (see investigation subpages) suggests it was in fact copied from later, copyrighted versions of that work. Consider the following examples. At its creation, the article said:

He went to Winchester College as a commoner in 1794, and in 1799 to the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. His age placed him in the centre of the cohort which rose during the Napoleonic Wars and went on to run the Victorian army.

The recent ODNB says:

He went to Winchester College as a commoner in 1794, and in 1799 to the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. His age placed him in the centre of the cohort which rose during the Napoleonic wars and went on to run the Victorian army.

The older version of the DNB, which is public domain, at page 393 here begins similarly, but includes no reference to his age or cohort, which would make sense, as according to my Shorter OED the word was not used in that definition until the middle of the 20th century.

I have removed that text and addressed one other concern. Assistance would be appreciating comparing this article to the older version and the recent ODNB and cleaning up any text which we are not legally entitled to use. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 22:46, 28 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
