The railroad of the Washington and Lincolnton Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, located in northeastern Georgia. The main line extends northeasterly from Washington to Lincolnton, a distance of 19.591 miles. The carrier also owns 0.991 mile of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 20.582 miles of all tracks owned and used.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated May 20, 1914, under the general laws of the State of Georgia, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad from Washington to Lincolnton, Ga. The date of organization of the carrier was June 22, 1914.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The owned mileage of the carrier, 19.591 miles, was all acquired by construction. That portion of its road extending from Washington to Lovelace, Ga., a distance of about 13 miles, was constructed under contract by the Morrow Construction Company, independent contractors, during the period from January 3 to November 1, 1916. The portion of the road extending from Lovelace to Lincolnton, Ga., was constructed under contract by Brooks-Calloway Company, independent contractors, during the period from June 1 to November 1, 1917. There is a difference of 0.159 mile between the mileage recorded by the carrier, 19.75 miles, and the mileage, 19.591 miles, inventoried as of date of valuation.
