Location and General Description of Property

The property of the Ft. Smith Suburban Railway Company, hereinafter called the Ft. Smith Suburban Railway, consists of 6.632 miles of single-track railroad, forming a belt line in the city of Fort Smith, Ark.

Introductory

The Ft. Smith Suburban Railway is a corporation of Arkansas, having its principal office at Fort Smith, Ark. It is controlled by the Missouri Pacific through ownership of capital stock. The records do not indicate that this company controls any common-carrier corporation. The property was operated successively by The Missouri Pacific Railway Company (of 1880), The Missouri Pacific Railway Company (of 1909), and the Missouri Pacific, from January, 1903, the date of its completion, to December 31, 1917. Since that date it has been operated by the United States Railroad Administration as a part of the operating unit of the Missouri Pacific.

Corporate History

The Ft. Smith Suburban Railway was incorporated July 29, 1902, under the general laws of Arkansas, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad, about 6 miles long, forming a belt line in the city of Fort Smith, Ark., and connecting with the road now owned by the Missouri Pacific, in or south of Fort Smith. The date of organization was not determined.

Development of Fixed Physical Property

The owned property, 6.632 miles of road, was acquired by construction which was completed in January, 1903. The road was constructed by the forces of The Missouri Pacific Railway Company (of 1880).

Leased Railway Property

The property is operated by the Missouri Pacific as a part of its own operating unit by virtue of ownership of the capital stock.
