Completed rewrite of Sailing. There were many unreferenced sections that read like "how-to" manuals. I moved the more technical "Physics" sections to the back. HopsonRoad (talk) 22:50, 30 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Abel F. Hayden: I have written this article about a 19th-century American Maritime pilot. He was one of the oldest Boston pilots, serving for over thirty years. He helped bring in the USS San Jacinto, into the Boston Harbor in 1861. Hayden was owner of the pilot-boat D. J. Lawlor, that was struck by a fishing schooner Horace B. Parker, in 1895.--Greg Henderson (talk) 16:38, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  1. High-performance sailing: I have rewritten this article, following the content of sources by Bethwaite, an authority on the subject. HopsonRoad (talk) 01:41, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Sailing: I have nibbled away at this article to assure that the descriptions provided are supported by references and to diminish the "how-to" tone of earlier iterations of the article. I have gotten as far as Hull trim, which is the first section where further improvement is indicated.
Also to be considered is whether it is appropriate to have a section on knots at the same level as sections on navigation. The hierarchical organization seems to be poorly considered. I suggest further discussion of the structure of the article at Talk:Sailing#Section hierarchy. Cheers, HopsonRoad (talk) 18:47, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Done This article is now in reasonable shape. HopsonRoad (talk) 18:58, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please review and let me know if you can help accept this page so it can be moved into the article space. --Greg Henderson 20:49, 9 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

1. High-performance sailing – There is a discussion at Talk:High-performance sailing#Wind-rotor propulsion out of scope for this article? whether wind-rotor propulsion is out of scope for this article. Your thoughts are welcome. User:HopsonRoad 13:04, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

 The wind-rotor propulsion material was moved to Wind-powered vehicle#Rotor-powered. User:HopsonRoad 12:53, 25 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

2. Sailing faster than the wind – You'll find a discussion of this article's awkward title at Talk:Sailing faster than the wind#Awkward title. I just made this article a part of this project and dropped it from WikiProject:Ships, because it wasn't about ships. User:HopsonRoad 13:12, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The name was changed to High-performance sailing after apparent consensus. There was one dissenter, who felt that the article was specifically about sailing faster than the wind. User:HopsonRoad 13:04, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

3. Sail components – You'll find a discussion of a rewrite of this article at: Talk:Sail components#Watch this space for a reorganization and rewrite. User:HopsonRoad 17:10, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have completed the rewrite and transferred it to the subject article. User:HopsonRoad 15:16, 15 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
