In honor of Women's History Month and the ArtAndFeminism Wikipedia Project, the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Memorial Library at the University of Scranton is hosting a Wikipedia workshop and edit-a-thon. Please join us for a communal editing event that seeks to create and improve Wikipedia articles related to women in the arts. The event will include a new editor orientation and training.

  • Participants will be able to use workstations in the library’s computer lab. Or, you can bring your laptop with you.
  • RSVP recommended: You can sign up by adding your Wikipedia username to the list of attendees below. Don't have a Wikipedia account yet? Email archives@scranton.edu to RSVP.
  • Who should participate: Everyone is welcome to attend! No previous experience or advanced technical skills required!
  • Goals:
    • To encourage and train inexperienced editors (especially women) on how they can contribute to Wikipedia
    • To improve the selection of Wikipedia articles related to women in the arts
    • To increase awareness of the online research resources available through libraries, archives, and museums
  • What to expect:
    • Refreshments will be provided.
    • No Wikipedia editing experience necessary; tutorials will be provided for Wikipedia newcomers. An introduction to editing will take place at 11:00 am and experienced editors will be on-site to help with questions or problems. If you are unfamiliar with Wikipedia and eager to learn, you can also try this training module.

  1. Do I need to have extensive knowledge on visual arts? Nope! You will be finding information about the artists through online resources. The important thing is knowing how to choose a reputable source from which to find a good citation.

Participants should feel free to add the names of notable women who need a better Wikipedia presence, especially ones whose articles could be improved by citations or the inclusion of research resources. The list is not intended to be comprehensive, but rather to provide a starting point for work. If you are not sure where to start, don't hesitate to ask for help! Please add the #ArtAndFeminism tag to all edits on Wikipedia made for this event.
