Forum (education)

edit

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Forum (education), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria.

Reason given is : Fail to see how this is different from forum (legal) in which schools are mentioned and it is unlikely to be expanded. Sufficient explanation in Wiktionary[1]. If you remove the prod please give me an explanation why you think the article should be kept. Thankyou. Firelement85 15:30, 7 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Zondor, got a second to elaborate on what you are trying to accomplish with articles such as Before and Afterwards? We are obviously not a dictionary, and I can't think of why somone would research the encylopedia for a word like Before. xaosflux Talk/CVU 07:05, 18 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Can you please review what you recently moved to Wiktionary? By moving them, do you mean that you believe each of them passes wikt:Wiktionary:Criteria_for_inclusion? Otherwise you might just be dumping garbage to another wiki. --Perfecto 09:50, 18 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Garglebutt has plenty of things to think about in terms of harrassment. But I think putting up that blog link is probably not good. --2006BC 07:56, 8 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

(after ec) I hope you realise that blog is most likely written by the Stephen Beng Ho vandal who wrote defamatory content about Rizzuto and accused Ambi, Longhair and myself of being the same person. As if Ambi would annouce it on a public blog if she was Rizzuto. That blog is just another fake Rizutto site. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 07:58, 8 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Actually, I correct myself. It isn't another fake site. It's the same one. This is the Australian politics vandal User talk:StephenBengHo. You'll notice that Longhair cites a blog which StephenBengHo kept inserting into the now deleted Rizzuto article. Funnily enough it's the exact same site that you're now citing as proof that Ambi is Rizzuto. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 11:42, 8 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Firstly, even if I was Paula Rizzuto, that blog is utterly defamatory, and your linking to it would be unwise. And secondly, I am not Paula Rizzuto, as I just proved to Adam Carr by posting logged out from my Canberra IP address. Thirdly, edit my user page again in that manner and I will block you. It is just as unwise concluding it is vandalism. [5] You're totally out of touch with community standards here, Zondor. Editing a contributor's user page to disclose their identity is vandalism of the most serious nature. Editing a contributor's user page to imply a false identity is just petty vandalism. Where or not you believe Ambi to be Paula Rizzuto, your edit of Ambi's user page was vandalism, and if you do it again there will be admins lining up to save Ambi the trouble of blocking you. I agree with Snottygobble and Ambi. You made a comment on Ambi's talkpage, asking: "is that a threat?". It was a threat, and the only reason why you should not take good notice of it is because, if you act inappropriately towards Ambi — or any other Australian editor — again, I intend to block you before she even knows about it. Recreated "stable version"

edit

I see you've recreated the "forked" version of Early life of Joseph Smith, Jr.. Unless I've missed some development on this score, this is not an operational process, and is still against Wikipedia:Content forking -- though at least it's no longer out of line with WP:PROTECT. Given the established consensus to delete this, it would seem to be speediable. Alai 06:53, 21 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

[9] -- Zondor 07:50, 21 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
I don't follow. Can you address the above with regard to why it shouldn't be speedily deleted, as a recreation of deleted material, and as a content fork? Alai 07:54, 21 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
[10] -- Zondor 07:58, 21 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
One deleteable article at a time, please. This is a WP:CSD G4; do you agree, and if not, why not? Alai 08:06, 21 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
[11] -- Zondor 08:35, 21 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I call 100% agreement to delete a pretty good consensus, actually. If there's no-one advocating it be kept at all, then "turnout" may be somewhat diminished. Given how actually stable the main article is, I don't see why you can't do "stable review" on a separate talk page, and put any changes into the history of said main article, as I suggested previously.

I'm not holding my breath for there being 10,000 "stable articles", if it takes this long to agree a stable version of a featured article, of which there are <1000. IMO you need both software support of stable version marking, and a more "lightweight" and speedy review process, otherwise the idea's not really going anywhere. Certainly 10,000 forked articles, all of them duplicating entries in permanent categories, isn't going to be acceptable. Alai 15:50, 22 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

[12] -- Zondor 02:15, 24 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
I've no objection at all to forks on the basis you suggest; that sounds like a good plan. Perhaps on the model of featured article nominations, there could be a "stabilisation window" (of 7, 10, 14 days, or whatever), after which it'd be put into the main history as a stable version if there's consensus to do so, at which point the copy would be deleted. (Obviously this could be extended if there's still active work on stablising.) One additional thing I'd request: turn the categories into links while they're on the forked page, so the copy isn't separately categorised under its "odd" name. Alai 02:45, 24 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Your "Columnisations"

edit

I noticed you reformatted quite a few articles by creating multiple columns in certain sections.

While this may work in some cases, in others it actually makes the content a lot harder to read. And, unless I've lost track at some point, it is also against the styling guidelines of Wikipedia. See: Wikipedia:Guide to layout and Wikipedia:Manual of Style.

So, please don't go overboard with those columns, and, especially on popular articles, check what other people think about the reformatting before you apply them (since it does go against the guidelines). Thanks! --Frescard 06:12, 17 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

about Lee Isaacs

edit
  • Keep Isaacs is my vote. This photographer is quite notable. Editor Hoary decided long ago he didn't want Isaacs' on WP for whatever reason. We both obviously see, along with others, that Isaacs work is as notable as half of the photographers on WP whether its art photography and/or commercial photography. I fleshed out alot of this article but I do understand to google Lee Isaacs is not easy since alot of people have his first and last name as a middle name and last name. I have a book here, UPsouth, that has many examples of his work. This is a Warhol project grant through Space One Eleven. He is in good company as far as the notoriety of the other artists here is concerned. Emma Amos and bell hooks are in the book along with Willie Cole and Marie Weaver. Cole is the only other male in this project. Maybe someone could sift through some of this. Artsojourner 06:26, 5 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fifth Melbourne meetup

edit

The fifth meetup of Melbourne Wikipedians is being planned as a breakfast meeting in the city with Jimbo Wales (at a venue to be arranged) on Friday, 27 April 2007.

Jimbo has proposed breakfast as the one real window of opportunity during his tightly scheduled stay in Melbourne. Tbe precise time has to be sorted out with Jimbo, but the arrangements for the equivalent Adelaide meetup a few days before may give a good idea.

Feel free to edit the relevant page in any way that might be helpful. I feel like a bit of an interloper, not having attended previous meetups. If there's anything you can do to help, I'll be grateful. Please think about whether you'll be able to make it, assuming the arrangements are similar to those Adelaide is adopting (i.e. a block of time with people being fairly free to arrive when it suits them). Some indication on the page of your possible participation would be really helpful. Metamagician3000 06:09, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unspecified source for Image:Sample-national-park-service-pictographs.gif

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Sample-national-park-service-pictographs.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:45, 3 April 2007 (UTC). fair use

edit

I have requested a review of the Image:Cisco.Certified.Network.Associate.Logo.png file that you uploaded (back in 2004), because I am less than 100% sure the image qualifies as fair use. Although it is of low-resolution, and is used solely to illustrate the subject matter in Wikipedia, it does not really contribute to the public's understanding of the subject matter, and so I think that it safely may be able to be deleted.

You and I may agree that it's fair use, but I nominated the image for review on the Wikipedia:possibly unfree images page, and possible deletion, out of an abundance of caution. If you work for Cisco then please go ahead and delete my nomination from the "possibly unfree images" page. 69.140.164.142 07:06, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:CompTIA.A.Plus.Logo.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 17:20, 16 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unspecified source for Image:CompTIA.A.Plus.Logo.png

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:CompTIA.A.Plus.Logo.png.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 17:20, 16 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 17:20, 16 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Lake baikal

edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Lake baikal, by Bkell, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Lake baikal fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

No pages link here, and the MediaWiki software will correct the capitalization if "lake baikal" is entered into the search box

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Lake baikal, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Lake baikal itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 04:14, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Labelled Maps with Rotation

edit

Hi Zondor,

That's a great job you have done on map labeling! I was just wondering that whether or not it is possible to add a rotation to the text. It would be awesome then! Then one can label everything, for example, I was thinking of labeling street maps where labels are along the streets; or, as another example, if one wants to label something which is very horizontally-narrow, like Chile in South America map, right? Imagine in this map, the name Chile was something else, like Trinidad and Tobago... :)

Have fun,

Speedy deletion of Template:Wikipedia videos/Sky City 1000

edit

A tag has been placed on Template:Wikipedia videos/Sky City 1000 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later." You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[Talk:Template:Wikipedia videos/Sky City 1000|the article's talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes ({{transclusionless}}).

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Infosys logo sml.gif

edit

Thank you for uploading Image:Infosys logo sml.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 12:45, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Qnext

edit

A tag has been placed on Qnext, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. wp:citation needed

edit

Hi Zondor,

Can I persuade you to get rid of the external links section at the bottom of this page? My favorite part about this page is that it's one of the briefest in the WP: space. As the editor who included the XKCD comic on the page in the first place (August 15, check the edit history), believe me, I'm with you, I think the inclusion of the XKCD is a fabulous thing. But the external links section adds almost 25% more text to the length of the page. And the thing is, the link to Digg doesn't say anything except, haha, pointing out that there's an XKCD comic on the page! -- which we already know.

I would be greatly, greatly, appreciative if you could be persuaded on this one. I have put dozens and dozens of hours into rewriting this page to be as brief as possible, and it would mean a lot to me.

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:The.Big.Lebowski.1998.Screenshot.1.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:The.Big.Lebowski.1998.Screenshot.1.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Σxplicit 20:32, 16 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Addition of "discuss" template to various articles

edit

You have recently added {{discuss}} and/or {{discusshl}} to numerous articles without explanation. Most of your additions have been reversed, making your edits pointless. Could you please explain why you are adding these templates and what you hope to achieve? Many editors would like to know. --AussieLegend (talk) 13:20, 10 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

I thought it was pretty self explanatory. Its an extension of the {{discuss}} tag. Its like using a yellow marker and writing notes about it, and so its very Web 2.0. Its useful in conjunction with the new Beta interface with Ajax popups of the content of the discussion. Wikipedia has an inherent problem of being untrustworthy in which these tags would hopefully help to resolve. The yellow highlights are suppose to highlight problems with some statements, if I had not done that correctly. Wikipedia is too proud of itself to think it is a worthy source of information. If you don't like them, then remove them only when the problem/discussion has been resolved. -- Zondor (talk) 13:41, 10 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
You've been adding them to parts of the text that have already been resolved—whether England is a country or not has been asked dozens of times and the resulting answer is yes; see the FAQ on the article's talk page. If you have a problem with the content, discuss it; don't just spam the article with templates and move to the next one. The yellow marker is quite ugly and distracting for the reader—the ones who are not involved with editing and simply want to read the content. Hayden120 (talk) 13:49, 10 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
My copyediting is trying to facilitate discussion. I would say these highlights are better than the boilerplates at being less conspicuous. It's a small price to pay to alert the reader that what they read might be false. -- Zondor (talk) 14:16, 10 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Your additions are forcing action in many cases where no discussion is required because it's already happened and ended, sometimes long ago. There is simply no point adding the tags in these cases. You need to ensure that discussion is required before adding these tags or else the edits are not constructive. A single generic question on a talk page, such as this, is insufficient justification for interrupting articles with an "in your face" template. Perhaps you would be better off engaging in the discussion on the talk page first, rather than trying to mandate one with your template. Above all, you need to explain why you are adding the template with an edit summary, if you think the addition is justified. --AussieLegend (talk) 14:34, 10 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps I have not correctly utilised the {{discusshl}}/{{discuss}} properly, but note that {{discuss}} is rather stable and well accepted. For some articles, I had simply replaced {{discuss}} with the new {{discusshl}}, but they were reverted too by another user. You just don't like the yellow, don't you? -- Zondor (talk) 16:08, 10 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:Rediff.com.Logo.gif

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Rediff.com.Logo.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 17:19, 23 February 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 17:19, 23 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

File:Rediff.com.Logo.gif missing description details

edit
Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as File:Rediff.com.Logo.gif is missing a description and/or other details on its image description page. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors to make better use of the image, and it will be more informative for readers.

If the information is not provided, the image may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.

If you have any questions please see Help:Image page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 21:48, 23 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

You are now a Reviewer

edit

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:27, 17 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yo. I'm not 100% convinced that this was a good addition. The news sources don't really talk about his connection to NG, and being memorialized by Fulp on the site itself aside, his actions weren't an event that really shaped the site as a whole in the 20 years it's been around. I don't think it's within the scope. BLUSTER⌉⌊BLASTER 11:08, 27 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Yo Mama (disambiguation)

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Yo Mama (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
