Please don't use the gibberish tag for articles that need to be translated. Although I did tag the article for deletion, it was because it was a website that gave no indication of notability. Also, generally pages tagged for speedy deletion are not blanked; blankings occur only on attack pages, and those are courtesy blanks. Thanks for doing new page patrol, but please read over the criteria again. Thanks, and happy editing. Lәo(βǃʘʘɱ) 08:56, 29 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello. When you patrol new pages, all articles that you have looked at should be marked patrolled, whether you marked them for deletion or deemed them acceptable, unless you are not sure. This saves time and work by informing fellow patrollers of your review of the page so that they do not duplicate efforts. Thank you. Jarkeld (talk) 01:20, 18 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Also: If you nominate articles for Speedy Deletion, please leave a message at the talk page of the author of that page to notify him or her. Jarkeld (talk) 01:29, 18 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

CSD Tag

edit

Regarding your CSD tag of How to upload an article (which I moved to Khawar Rizvi), can you explain why you thought it was vandalism? I'm not familiar with the subject of the article, but it didn't obviously strike me as vandalism, so I'm wondering if there is more information I'm not aware of. Thanks!  Frank  |  talk  13:11, 12 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

hmmm...the title mislead me...Also I found no reference of Khawar Rizvi in google. It's not even mentioned in List of Urdu language writers. But the vandal tag was inappropriate. Thank you for reverting that. - Sabih 02:28, 13 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Page titles

edit

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give Martyred intellectual a different title by copying its content and pasting it into 1971 killing of Bengali intellectuals. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other articles that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. Speedy deletion nomination of Bangladesh Computer Council

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Bangladesh Computer Council requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://faridpur.bcc.net.bd/images/aims%20and%20objectives%20of%20bcc.pdf. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:30, 21 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

New deal for page patrollers

edit

Hi WikiSabih,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello Sabih omar. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Sabih omar. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Sabih omar|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Bilby (talk) 01:45, 13 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Bilby, I was not paid to make any of the recent edits, but there is a good reason why the articles/drafts I started recently look like paid articles. It is because I saw these requests being made in freelancing websites! I had no way to intervene, so I wanted to create drafts with the very sparse information available on them (I had a lot of free time because of summer vacation) and get them rejected so the paid user cannot slip them in unchecked. Now I understand that it was not a very smart idea. However, every page has slightly different stories, so here's a breakdown of the recent edits--
  • Draft:Stephen J. Wampler - I saw the request in freelancing sites, and understood this was non-notable, but wanted to give this a shot.
  • Draft:Bashar Georgis - I saw the request in freelancing sites, and understood this was non-notable. He's from my home country, so had a bit idea about his work.
  • Draft:Hollyfy and Draft:Oleg Uritsky - I saw the request in freelancing sites, and understood this was non-notable and wanted to get these rejected once before anyone attempts to start an article.
  • Susan Binau - This person was asking for new edits in freelancing sites. I saw that the article about her existed for a very long time, but clearly not Wiki-worthy, so I added AfD on this.
  • Uma Preman: I did see a request in a freelancing site, but the topic felt notable (and personally inspiring), so created an article with proper tone and citation (as best I could).
  • Electra Battery Materials: Not from freelancing site, but personal interest in battery recycling. I am also preparing one article about "Black mass".
  • Santa Rita Ranch, Texas: I saw an infobox update request in a freelanceing site, but do not know what they intended to update. But after checking similar articles, found demographics statistics interesting, so copied the racial composition table from Brushy Creek, Williamson County, Texas article and updated with appropriate statistics. After that, I also updated the demographics of Hillsboro, Oregon based on 2020 census, because I live here.
I know all of this sounds bizarre, but that is the explanation I have. Sabih omar 03:19, 13 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Update. I got in touch with a private person (Jayaprakash S) affiliated with Uma Preman/SMIC (was not disclosed to me) and received payment for the Uma Preman article creation. I have declared the affiliation in my user page and article talk page. If there is any remaining COI concern, please add the appropriate template to the article.
I re-state that I have not received any payment for any other article mentioned above, or have not tried contacting any affiliated person about employment. Sabih omar 03:43, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, but this account of your relationship with Jayaprakash is not viable. It is clear that you have been paid to create the article. As such, I need to leave the tag in place until it can be checked by an editor independent of the subject. - Bilby (talk) 04:55, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
My apologies, I did not realise that you had added the paid contributions tag to your userpage. I have updated the tag on the article to suit. I do not accept your explanation of your relationship with the Uma Preman article, but at least we've clarified the status. - Bilby (talk) 06:00, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your time. Sabih omar 07:50, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi again. I think the best way forward, rather than take this to a noticeboard, is for you to start disclosing. Can you provide a list of articles which you have been paid to edit and add them to your userpage? - Bilby (talk) 07:31, 16 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

I had already added the disclosure for the Uma Preman article to my user page. As I mentioned above, that is the only article I received payment for. I did not take out any contract for the other ones. I just saw the requests on freelancer.com and wanted to get their first. I did not even bid for them. .Sabih omar 09:27, 16 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Ok. I'm really sorry to hear you say that. I'll start a discussion at COIN. - Bilby (talk) 10:33, 16 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

"Karen" AfDs

edit

Hi Sabih omar, in the Karen Archey AfD, it is noted by another participant that you have nominated 6 articles for deletion on one day with subjects that all have the first name "Karen." Please note there is a Wikipedia article Karen (slang) that may help explain why this pattern of nominations raises some concern. I would also like to encourage you to consider the appearance this conduct may have, e.g. "motives such as "lulz"" and to generally review the disruptive editing guideline, because it applies to conduct that is knowingly or unknowingly disruptive. Thank you, Beccaynr (talk) 15:54, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

I have also gone through other common first names like Chris, Smith, Michael, Jennifer and Pamella. I have also improved several pages (like Karen Beemon, Pamela Wallace, Smith Bagley etc.). Even the page for Karen Archey is getting renewed attention because of the AfD. So yes, I did categorically look up pages by first name, but tried to improve them (or remove) based on the merit of each page, without any prejudice. If you are accusing me of disrupting editing, please show how they are detrimental to WIkipedia. Sabih omar 17:00, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your detailed response; my goal is not to accuse you of anything, but instead to follow up on a pattern noticed during an AfD discussion and to offer my perspective on why it may raise a concern that may not be obvious based on how it was presented during the AfD discussion. Based on what you have written here and your history of productive editing, I do not have the sense that you intended any harm; I only seek to call attention to how others may view the pattern and to ask that you consider this when reviewing articles by first name. Perhaps consider broader and more general categories when reviewing articles in the future. Thanks again, Beccaynr (talk) 17:39, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. I will keep this in mind. Sabih omar 18:21, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi Sabih omar, first I think your reply to @Beccaynr's concern is reasonable but I do just want to add some additional history as to why Beccaynr's concern is also a reasonable one. In general AfD can be contentious, whether right or wrong, and editors who seem to show pattern of nominating articles about a specific topic are regularly brought to WP:ANI. A recent example is WP:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive1135#Let'srun's beauty pageant nominations but, again, these concerns/complaints occur regularly. To be clear, you have done nothing wrong and neither did Beccaynr. My best advice is to take note of the results of your current nominations so you an get feel for the community's consensus about notability to avoid nominating articles that are likely to be kept. In addition, if you are going through a category, which is a logical approach, is to simply state that in the AfD nominations you make once it becomes clear you might be making multiple nominations in a short time frame. Other than that, keep up your good work and thank you for your contributions. S0091 (talk) 20:27, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Sabih omar, I left you a message at the Karen Archey AfD as to why I had asked: Also a quick question, how come you seem to like nominating articles about people named "Karen"? Not that you have done anything against policy, but you nominated six "Karen articles" in one day. Just curious. Best regards, and thank you for your contributions! Refname oddity

edit

Hi, Sabih. Just out of curiosity: may I ask what your rationale was, for changing some reference names in Edward Forman in these cases:

  • 'Carter-2004' ⟶ 'Carter-20042' in this edit
  • 'Pendle-2005' ⟶ 'Pendle-20052' in this edit
  • 'Landis-2005' ⟶ 'Landis-20052' in this edit

There's nothing that's against guidelines here, so you didn't do anything wrong, but I'm just wondering, since the named references were working fine before your edits, and "LastName-YYYY" is a standard type of reference name, so I'm just curious why you decided to change them. Cheers, Mathglot (talk) 05:51, 17 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

I am not sure. I copied some of them from the Parsons page. Please feel free to change them back to what common practice dictates. Sabih omar 07:48, 17 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I did go ahead and change them back, because they had been that way before, and seemed okay that way. This is about as minor an issue as can be, and there was nothing really wrong with your version. Maybe MOS:VAR applies, but I doubt it. It's probably just me being a perfectionist. Mathglot (talk) 08:25, 19 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Reviewing suggested edits to American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) article

edit

Hi WikiSabih, I am looking to work with the Wikipedia community of editors to suggest objective edits to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) article to help address the style and tone issues highlighted for this article, as well as the issues noted around primary sources. I have a COI as AFSP is my client, so I will not be making edits directly. I was wondering if you would be willing to take a look at my suggested edits for this article, and if you agree, help with implementing the edits.

I have drafted a rework of the first lead section of the page to address the tone issues and added additional 3rd party sources and am happy to provide more information. We are looking to provide updates for the majority of the page to answer the issues in full, but will break them up by section to allow for easier reviewing. This is a big ask so happy to work within your schedule.

A note about this has also been left on Talk:American Foundation for Suicide Prevention! Thank you! MaguireL (talk) 19:25, 23 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

I would be glad to help, but I am currently embroiled in an ANI, so I would stay away from more contentious edits. Sabih omar 19:38, 23 August 2023 (UTC) Sabih omar 19:38, 23 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
