RFC discussion of your username (Thaksin)

edit

Hello, Thaksin, and thank you for contributing to Wikipedia! Wikipedia has a policy on what usernames editors can use. Unfortunately, concerns have been raised that your username may be incompatible with that policy. You can contribute to the discussion about it here. Alternatively, if you agree that your username may be problematic and are willing to change it, it is possible for you to keep your present contributions history under a new name. Simply request a new name here following the guidelines on that page, rather than creating a whole new account. Thank you. -- Paul_012 (talk) 08:14, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Explain Username

edit

I am an editor under the wikipedia username "Thaksin". However, there is a comment on my username whether it is in repetitive with Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra, the former prime minister of Thailand. The comment also doubt whether my username is in conflict with the wikipedia's policy on username.

I may suggest that the word "Thaksin" is a common word in Thai language, which has 2 meanings. According to the Official Thai Dictonary of 1999 compiled by the Royal Institute of Thailand, the word "Thaksin" can mean "the south direction" or "southern". The other meaning is "the right hand side." Nevertheless the word "Thaksin" is the firstname of many Thai people; It is very common in Thailand to find a person with his firstname of "Thaksin". The word "Thaksin" is also a prefix in Thai language: you can add "Thaksin-" in front of certian words to make new words.

Please notice that using the word "Thaksin" alone (without his surname) did not resemble such person. If there exist a wikipedia user under the name of "Shinawatra", such action cen be interpreted as a deliberate intention to be resembled as such person (such surname is not very common, it is very very rare to find). Not many family names are common, and most family names are very rare and maybe unique to only one family. In contrary, nearly all firstname is very common in Thailand; you would not find a unique firstname among Thais (But not impossible).

I deny the doubt on the ground that I use the name with good faith, as you can see in my edit history (contribution page). There is no political conviction to be found there, you can found only editeds on economic contents however contained a little relatedness with politic and/or political situations in Thailand. No intention to defame nor exaggerate such person nor provoke misleading to anyone, as I edit only on economic issues with explainable reasoning and intention.

I don't think that using of the name will result in the breach of the username policy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thaksin (talk • contribs) 19:47, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
