Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:Karkemish_1.jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[1][2]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. See our non-free content guidelines for more more information.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. Prince Kassad 07:54, 26 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hello,
Thanks for telling me. Please leave me about 1 month (I remove the tag) to ask to the copyright holder if he is OK to put the picture under the GFDL/CC licences. Thanks in advance. Poppypetty 07:57, 26 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image: Wikipedia_Malay.JPG

edit

You have recently listed this image which I uploaded for deletion. I have to say that there is no basis to your claim. The Harry Potter cover shown is not the main subject of the screen shot. This image is a screen shot of the Malay Wikipedia. It clearly implies that that is that. Should there be claims that the Harry Potter cover is not a free image, the Harry Potter cover image uploaded at the Malay Wikipedia should be deleted instead of this screen shot.Horacenew (talk) 16:04, 28 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your reason applies to personality rights, but we're talking about copyright here, where it doesn't matter whether the copyrighted part is the main subject or not - if one part is copyrighted, the whole image is.
Also, of course the Harry Potter cover is copyrighted - copyright is granted to every object without registration or notice, and Rowling has not released the cover under a free license as far as I know. -- Prince Kassad (talk) 16:08, 28 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Pointless redirs

edit

I was just wondering, how do you search for/find those useless redirects containing control characters and the like? [Good job on that, by the way!] I was wondering if I could help find them. Thanks! RichardΩ612 Ɣ |ɸ 13:05, May 11, 2008 (UTC)

I go to Special:Allpages and list all pages starting from the Armenian letter Ա (logged out and with IE which conveniently shows all special characters in the adress bar). That's where the hunting ground begins, I use my eye and look for suspicious redirects, dotted circles (indicating a misspelling in Indic names) and the like. You can't believe just how many useless redirects are hidden there. -- Prince Kassad (talk) 14:13, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Something that might just make your day! A proposal to speedy these kinds of things without days of pointless prebaricating. Your input would be appreciated. RichardΩ612 Ɣ |ɸ 14:33, May 11, 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:ArabicWikipedia 20071124.png}

edit

Thank you for uploading Image:ArabicWikipedia 20071124.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. 독도

edit

Re this edit: the article was not a substantial copy of the kowiki article; in fact, according to Google translate, it was an anti-Japanese rant about Dokdo. This mistake is pretty easy to make, but next time, if it isn't a copy of a foreign-language WP article, and it isn't a blatant copyvio, please bring it to WP:PNT and/or tag with {{notenglish}}. Thanks for your contributions, nneonneo talk 20:01, 5 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Where is the requirement that the articles have to be identical? Most pages say the article only has to exist at the foreign language wiki to be eligible for speedy. -- Prince Kassad (talk) 20:24, 5 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
"a foreign-language article that exists on another Wikimedia project". The interpretation I take is that the article has to be a copy (in full or in part) of the other article. The user notification template {{foreign-warn}} makes this more clear: "the article appears to be a foreign language article that was copied and pasted from another Wikimedia project, or was transwikied out to another project". nneonneo talk 22:59, 5 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Composite phoneme

edit

You may be right on this, but the connection g+b (the ones that make up a single phoneme in Ewe) shows wrongly, at least on my screen does, because what you did shows as if the phoneme were made up with ὲ+g (in Ewe there is no such a composite phoneme as ὲg) instead of g+b. Regards. --80.5.88.40 (talk) 10:40, 8 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

As I said in the summary, it's a known bug in the Arial Unicode MS font. It cannot position the arc correctly and shows exactly as you described. In other fonts it works fine. -- Prince Kassad (talk) 10:54, 8 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the answer. I did not noticed the last bit of the summary. The problem mentioned before takes place with IE but about a couple of hours ago I had the chance to look at it with Firefox and the problem was exactly the opposite; the arc went over b+è. It logically must be a lack of consistency about the design of each font but I find quite strange that at least two important fonts design that particular symbol so arbitrariously. It is not difficult at all designing a font character like this so that it should be placed between the couple of letters involved in order and show reasonable good results, so I wonder whether this happens out of sheer lack of co-ordination, lack of interest or simple personal taste by the designers. I guess the only way to solve this would be by Wikimedia automatically forcing the display of their own fonts or, maybe, of previously hand-fixed font versions installed in the monobook. This last option, might start copyright issues, though. Thanks anyway. --80.5.88.40 (talk) 17:55, 8 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
It is easy to make the arc position correctly (I have some experience with developing fonts so I know). For the first case (over ὲg) it might have been a misunderstanding by the developer of the Arial Unicode MS font. It's not quite obvious how one should position the double arc, and even though officially it should go between the characters, the developer thought it must be positioned after both characters. Now, the other case (positioned over bè) is surprising, and is something I'd expect of monospaced fonts (where combining diacritics do not work due to design limitations).
Embedding fonts is a possibility and there was a discussion about it, I don't know how it turned out though. -- Prince Kassad (talk) 18:27, 8 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Wasser!

edit

Hallo!

— N-true (talk) 19:25, 22 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Kannada Wikipedia

edit

The article Kannada Wikipedia has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable website, per WP:NOTABLE, composed of first-hand sources.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. —Justin (koavf)TCM 22:50, 26 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Soyuz 7K-OK No.1. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Soyuz 1. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Soyuz 1 – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Psychotic Spartan 123 20:48, 1 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
