"Not allowed in English"???? Nonsense!

edit

Consider, my friend, the words of that great man James Nicoll:

The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and riffle their pockets for new vocabulary.

Sometimes we keep the diacriticals in English, sometime we don't; look at the spelling of naïve and rôle, among others. --Orange Mike | Talk 19:57, 21 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Talk:List of Filipino inventions and discoveries, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not blatantly vandalism or a hoax. Hello Presidentbalut. If you think the article should be deleted, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion is to place to go. Peter in Australia aka --Shirt58 (talk) 13:08, 29 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Stay civil and stay polite. We are a community here. If you need help let someone know. I want to see articles on Filipino-related topics improved too. Unfortunately to be civil that also means that things here are time consuming and it is difficult to understand processes, but most people feel like they get treated fairly by the rules. We do need more volunteers. Thanks! Blue Rasberry (talk) 18:07, 21 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Personal attacks

Please try to stay within the top three tiers of this hierarchy.

Hello, I'm 78.26. I noticed that you made a comment on the page Talk:René Auberjonois that didn't seem very civil. Wikipedia needs people like you and me to collaborate, so it's one of our core principles to interact with one another in a polite and respectful manner. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Calling someone a troll is a personal attack, SummerPhD, who is a respected, experienced editor, was politely discussing an issue. Please refrain from unfounded accusations and name calling.   Please do not attack other editors, as you did on Talk:Genealogical DNA test. Comment on content, not on contributors. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you. SummerPhD (talk) 01:37, 18 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Talk:Genealogical DNA test

edit

I asked two simple questions on this talk page in response for your requests for clarification. Your responses were not helpful. I have noticed that many of your talk page questions have repeating problems.

On at least four different articles, you have asked about the use of "foreign characters" in article titles. When you receive answers that 1) they are not "illegal" in American English and 2) follow Wikipedia's conventions, you seem to ignore the answers.

In several articles you insist that your knowledge of a subject is superior to the reliably sourced information in the article. What you know may or may not be correct. We are not here to judge that. For simplicity sake, Wikipedia is based on verifiability, not truth. It is one of our core principles. We cannot determine which of several competing ideas (if any) is or are true. We can, however, establish which are supported by reliable sources.

In several cases you are raising questions based facts you claim that no one else seems to be able to determine: "foreign characters" being illegal under New York state and federal law, the U.S. Navy using genetic testing to verify race, the widely accepted "Out of Africa" theory being widely rejected, etc. To answer your questions on these, we need to understand what you are asking, which requires you to explain these apparent discrepancies.

The possible explanations for these conflicts are limited in number. If you are right or simply confused in these cases, you can discuss the situations or make personal attacks. Discussing the situations is how Wikipedia works. Personal attacks will result in you being blocked. It is also possible that you don't want answers. That, too, will lead to a block. At your current rate, we'll have an outcome within a couple of days. - SummerPhD (talk) 01:55, 18 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Personal attacks

edit

Please be aware that comments like this and this are personal attacks. The community is very tolerant of misunderstandings, but it should be obvious that such personal attacks will lead to blocks. If that weren't the case, every page would be full of people abusing each other. If there is an issue, editors may ask questions and comment on the issue. However, do not comment on other editors.
