Drafts
editHi - I'm Girth Summit, and administrator here. I noticed that today you moved a couple of drafts, which had been written by people editing without logging in, into article space. Please could you explain how you are connected to the editors who created those drafts - was that you, editing while logged out, or someone you know? Briefly, the articles aren't ready to be published in article space. I'd be happy to help you, or the people who wrote them, get them ready to publish, but it would be a lot easier to do so if I know whether I'm communicating with one person, or a group of people. Thanks GirthSummit (blether) 20:19, 24 December 2020 (UTC)
Hello Girth Summit. Our apologies. Me and my friend were simply trying to learn as we go. She’s the one that edits without logging in (quarantined a block away) and I’m the one who moved those articles. There isnt much to do during the pandemic so we thought of doing something good, however not done before, for the holidays. It would be a beautiful holiday blessing if you could get those two shows articles ready to publish in the proper way. Thank you very much. MyNewPhilosophy (talk) 21:37, 24 December 2020 (UTC)
- MyNewPhilosophy, ok, understood. What they are needing is better sourcing. Did you click through on the links in the messages your friend received? They should give you an idea of what's needed. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 00:18, 25 December 2020 (UTC)
Women in Red
editHi there, MyNewPhilosophy, and welcome to Women in Red. I see that a while back you created Domaine Javier and am pleased to see you now intend to write many more. When you feel ready to work on the next one, you might find it useful to look through our Ten Simple Rules. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties or need assistance.--Ipigott (talk) 11:28, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hello there user:Ipigott! I am very pleased to join my first Wiki group ever. I am obviously very green but I’ve been receiving tremendous amount of help and guidance from some very kind, knowledgeable people, including user:Megalibrarygirl who encouraged me to join the group, user:Yngvadottir, and user:Ritchie333. Now you’re one of my helpful Wiki-friends too, whether you like it or not. Cheers. MyNewPhilosophy (talk) 13:43, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
February 2021
editHello MyNewPhilosophy. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.
Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.
Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:MyNewPhilosophy. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=MyNewPhilosophy|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. CUPIDICAE💕 11:53, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hi. God I wish I’m being compensated for something. To be clear, I am NOT getting paid for anything. I did not even know such a thing is possible. I’m simply trying to create a positive difference without expecting anything in return. But thanks for all your concern, user:Praxidicae, I’m sure it’s coming from a good place. Rest assured, highly-knowledgeable and experienced admin users user:Yngvadottir, user:Megalibrarygirl, and user:Ritchie333 have taken me under their wings and can vouch for me. I’m still learning and there’s so much more to learn, so I’m inclined to make mistakes along the way. But with their help, I’ll be better. Cheers. MyNewPhilosophy (talk) 12:10, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for your response, could you explain how this is your own work? Thanks. CUPIDICAE💕 12:12, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- Javier is a very friendly, engaging person on social media, so I sent her a message asking for a personal photo that she can give me rights to. She responded, “Give me one good reason why and it’s done.” I replied, “To share more of you to the world.” She then sent the photo in question with the message, “It’s all yours. Do good. Spread kindness.” MyNewPhilosophy (talk) 12:19, 13 February 2021 (UTC)

- Noted. Another lesson learned along the way. Thanks for watching out. Cheers. MyNewPhilosophy (talk) 12:26, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- MyNewPhilosophy, there is a way you can get the photo released on commons if you are in communication with the subject. It's pretty easy to use. Send them to this link: OTRS Release Generator. The OTRS is the system Commons uses to review images. Commons is really complicated with all of the copyright issues, so don't worry about making mistakes. I did, even when I had permission because I didn't understand how the site worked at first. Megalibrarygirl (talk) 18:58, 13 February 2021 (UTC)

Women in Red 8th Anniversary
editWomen in Red 8th Anniversary | |
In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Join us for some virtual cake and add comments or memories and please keep on editing to close the gap! |
