Block message:

Autoblocked because your IP address was recently used by "Mattisse". The reason given for Mattisse's block is: "Restoring Talk page access; see Talk for rationale".

Accept reason: There is some strange problem here. This autoblock should have expired over 11 months ago. However, I have lifted the block, and I hope you have no further problems. JamesBWatson (talk) 19:57, 8 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. I couldn't figure out what was going on. Thanks! Manny may (talk) 20:12, 8 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Accept reason: Very odd, diff ID to before - I've gone though the unblock, have a try now Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:08, 10 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

From what I can figure out, neither my IP nor I have been blocked, according to the log of recent blocks. It says "The requested IP address or username is not blocked." Thank you, Manny May

A search of autoblocks now shows "There are no current autoblocks placed in Laser's name."  Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:12, 10 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Accept reason: This problem has been affecting numerous users over the last few days, though I have not come across another user who has been affected three times by it. Autoblocks which expired months ago mysteriously reactivate themselves, for no apparent reason. There are some circumstances in which there are legitimate reasons for the software to reactivate an old autoblock, but I am under the impression that recently it has been happening through some sort of error. I have lifted the block. I have also given you IP block exemption. I'm not actually sure that prevents autoblocks, as opposed to direct blocks of IP addresses, but I thought it worth giving a try. I do hope that your problems are finally over, but please feel welcome to email me if the problem returns yet again. JamesBWatson (talk) 13:52, 11 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Addendum:

The Autoblock search says: "There are no current autoblocks placed in Laser's name."

Blocking admin: Laser brain says: "No matching items in log."

Thank you, Manny may

I've also added it to the Bug Report at https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31403  Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:04, 11 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Maybe I should collect my books and get on back to school

edit

Hi Manny May!

Thanks for your thoughts, which I read with interest.

I was sorry to read about RfC's role in the departure of the editor you named, whose name has appeared in "when giants walked the earth" comments by old timers. However, I don't think that you need worry about my departing or being driven off WP.

I am more concerned about the role this RfC will play in the reputation and future of two valuable Wikipedians, whom I had wished had been prioritizing other activities in the last few months.

Sincerely,  Kiefer.Wolfowitz 16:01, 10 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

When I try to edit I get the following message: Editing from Manny may has been disabled by Risker for the following reason(s): no reason given

This block has been set to expire: no expiry set.

When I check the block log, it says that I am blocked for sock evasion, but I am not a sock. I have edited before for a long time but stopped about a year ago because I was no longer enjoying myself. I had forgotten my password and could not use my old account so I registered under a new name recently when I wanted to edit again.

Also, I see that the autoblock by Laser brain has kicked in again. The log says "10:47, 16 October 2011 - Autoblock #3655088 - Laser brain (talk • autoblocks • blocks) - (Autoblocked because your IP address was recently used by "Mattisse". The reason given for Mattisse's block is: "Restoring Talk page access; see Talk for rationale".) However, according to JamesBWatson (see above), this autoblock should have expired over 11 months ago.

Request reason:

I've been blocked because I'm wrongly thought to be a sock. I've had a previous account but I haven't ever been blocked or banned. I've been advised to contact arbcom but I can't as my account and my IP are both blocked. My email is block also, so I can't make any appeals by email. Checkuser is incorrect in attributing my IP to a sock account. How can I get help with this? Manny may (talk) 14:10, 16 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

Per CU evidence below and the fact that individual admins may not undo an arbcom block. Talk page access removed. Please contact arbcom directly to request an unblock. T. Canens (talk) 22:12, 16 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I'm assuming that "my email is block also" refers to the fact that Mattisse's email is blocked. --Closedmouth (talk) 14:17, 16 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
No. My email is blocked. I, Manny may, can't email, or edit.
Can you give me a clue why I am blocked? What is the evidence that I am a sock? Where is the checkuser evidence? Manny may (talk) 14:46, 16 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Would you be willing to disclose your other account? It might be helpful. WilliamH (talk) 15:37, 16 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
I'd be willing but I can't remember the exact name enough to find it. It was a while ago. But it wasn't ever blocked or banned. Surely if that account were an issue, the checkuser would show it, wouldn't it? Manny may (talk) 15:53, 16 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
In that case, as you are willing, please say something about the edit history of that account. If you can recall any edits you made or pages you edited, it will be possible to identify it, particularly if you include the date as near as you can to when you edited them. The more information available, the more informed the response by the reviewing admin/checkuser will be. WilliamH (talk) 16:35, 16 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
If you can't remember the exact name, tell us what you do remember of it. That could help. Peridon (talk) 18:09, 16 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

(ec)::::Altogether I didn't edit all that much, just on and off since 2005 and changing my name several times. I spent alot of time fooling with categories and disambig pages, fixing orphan pages and other work suggested in the Community portal like wikifying. I mostly read stuff and did some ce if I felt like it and some linking and adding photos, especially in the early days. I liked finding names and concepts in articles that needed a link or sticking a picture in. Or creating and improving disambig pages. I didn't do alot of heavy editing or create articles. I didn't really get involved much with specific articles except for whatever was in the wikfiying backlog mostly in the early days when I was more interested in the project. Around 2007 I became less invested and just doing little stuff here and there. I would ce articles I saw in recent changes, most of the time just a few edits. After 2007 or so I hardly edited at all. About a year ago I moved and changed computers and lost all my notes and everything. Lately I started reading articles again and noticed that they seemed much better and more interesting so I decided to edit again, this time more seriously. Something I was going to try to do coming back to the project was to be a more invested editor and get more involved in specific articles and topics, spend more time really fixing up specific articles, helping out the project and interact more with the community. • Response to Peridon (talk): Although I haven't been participating here for quite a while, I have continued to contribute heavily to many internet sites, newspapers and blogs over the years, and have quite a few usernames to the point that if my browser doesn't save them, I am lost. Now I keep a record but I didn't until recently. I know this sounds stupid of me but most places you can get your username and password back through other means if you get them mixed up or forget.
