I was not experimenting, I did it on purpose. AND it's not vandalism, it's a matter of opinion.Laurap414

Laura, I received you email with the text "who the heck are you?". I'd be happy to correspond with you, but please contact me on my talk page. I understand that you would like the Daniel Pearl video links removed because they are offensive. I also find them offensive, but unfortunately that's not justification for removal of information. PepsiAmericas

edit

The Category:Corporation stubs is extremely overpopulated. When I started cleaning up the category, it contained (rough estimate) over 3,000 stubs. In order to clean up the category, many articles had to be moved to other categories (e.g. Bank stubs), and some new categories had to be created (e.g. Restaurant stubs). For now, drink-stub is imo a better location for PepsiAmericas than corp-stub. Corp-stub is very broad, and is meant as a net for articles that can't fit into an already existing category. Drink-stub indicates what kind of corporation PepsiAmericas is: a beverage-related corporation. This is not a golden rule though: if there are enough articles, a new stub category might be created: {{drink-corp-stub}}, in order to make a distinction between articles about beverages, and articles about the corporations producing beverages. I hope this answers your question. And no, you didn't do anything wrong ;) Aecis 18:48, 12 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

I am a little confused about your comment on the dab talk. You can learn to pipe links at Wikipedia:Piped link. You can put the date after your name by signing four tildas eg: ~~~~. You can find out about the style of dab pages at Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages). Can you please re-explain your suggestion. --Commander Keane 11:58, August 14, 2005 (UTC)

Semi-automated template substitution

Oh, this is a few days ago :) - What it was was the bot was taking templates and putting in the full text in instead of the template message. Take a look at WP:SUBST it might be able to explain a bit better than I can -- Tawker 04:00, 7 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Soiling

edit

hi there Laurap414! I noticed you added Soiling to AfD. There are a couple of things you did slightly wrong, and I hope you don't mind me letting you know (I saw your userbox!) Firstly, see Wikipedia:Merge for advice on how to suggest a merger of pages. Secondly, when adding to AfD, remember to use the "subst" in section 2 of the "how-to nominate an article" guide on the WP:AFD page. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me! ConDemTalk 05:33, 7 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi there again. The thing to do when you see something that you think should be merged into another article, as in where there is overlap like in soiling, is to suggest a merge using Wikipedia:Merge. An article that is "in outline format, not in full sentences" does not warrant an AfD - in this case, you should add a cleanup tag listed under Wikipedia:Cleanup resources, or a {{wikify}} tag, if the problem is to do with formatting. Of course, you're very welcome to have a go at reorganising or reformatting an article yourself so that it fits in with Wikipedia's Manual of Style. The deletion policy lists those things which might make an article or image appropriate for listing under AfD. For non-controversial deletion of articles you can use the {{prod}} tag. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask me on my talk page and I'll be very happy to help! ConDemTalk 00:43, 9 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Probably not. The software behind the website doesn't always redirect miscapitalized spellings automatically. In any case, I don't think the extra redirect is doing any harm. --DMG413 17:59, 8 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Soiling

edit

Hello Laura. Don't worry, I won't be offended. But I think that if it has to be merged, than strictly encopresis and fecal incontinence would need to me merged too. The 3 all mean pretty much the same with minor differences mainly depending on the context. I would like to do a "cleanup", meaning I could translate the article in lay-terms that are easier to understand and adding references and evidence. But I will only do it once the threat that the article will disappear shortly is being lifted, because I don't want to do the work just for somebody else to delete it. I think I have a very good article on this subject valuable for all who are affected by this problem, and I understand it needs cleanup. But I also understand Mr.Condem who thins that a Guide on Management doesn't belong to an Encyclopedia. Please make up your mind whether I should carry on with cleaning or not. I would NOT be happy to alter the Encopresis- or Fecal soiling- pages, because these articles are both very good as they are, and I don't want to mess them up. Greetings, Peter Aberpete 19:20, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi there. I have followed your order and done a spell-check, removed the ""s, and rephrased some sentences. I'm sure it is still not perfect, I'm new to Wikipedia and my English has always been crap. I can only do more if you tell me exactly where the problems are. With your permission I would remove the copyedit-tag. Greetings, PeterAberpete 01:54, 5 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Laura, I would have no objection to merging my article with First Book of Nephi. The problem is that if a reader enters "Lehi's Dream" as a search term he gets nothing. If it is made possible for that reader to enter that search term and get First Book of Nephi that's fine. Anne Wingate

Vin DiCarlo

edit

Thanks for mentioning the google cache (already realised that, I've been around on wikipedia for a long time!), but I recall even older versions of Vin DiCarlo (sadly it has been deleted a lot of times without a proper process, this is hopefully going to the first full AfD for it). Also the really annoying thing is the google cache doesn't give you the nice wiki code, only the processed version the googlebot saw on wikipedia. So I can't see that actuall wiki code to use in the article directly or the older versions. Oh well, is times like this that I wish I was an Admin. Would make it so much easier to improve articles like this. Anyway, thanks again for the thought with helping me out. :) Mathmo Talk 20:13, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

WP:FRIENDLY documentation change

edit

With this edit, do you mean that Friendly doesn't work in IE or that clearing your cache doesn't work in IE? Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 15:52, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Oh -- since the documentation states that Friendly doesn't work in IE, I thought to remove the reference to Control F5. I can see how it would be confusing. Please feel free fix to be more clear, or I would be happy to. laurap414 (talk) 15:54, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

That makes sense! Come to think of it, I'm not really sure if it works in IE or not...I've never tried. Are you using IE? Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 15:55, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I am using IE6. I "installed" it and nothing seemed to happen when I refreshed. But then I saw that the page states several times that it only works in Firefox so I uninstalled it. How would I know it was "working"? laurap414 (talk) 15:58, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

If it was working you would see a couple of new tabs on certain screens. If you went to an article, you should see a "tag" tab and if you go to a user talk page, you should see a "welcome" tab. There are screenshots on the documentation page that should give you an insight into what they will look like. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 16:37, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well IE6 doesn't even have tabs so doubtful that would work! Does the change to the documentation make sense, or should it be further modified? laurap414 (talk) 16:42, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

No, it doesn't add tabs into IE; it adds new tabs to the top of your Wikipedia skin. You know the page history and edit tabs...the new tabs will be like those. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 16:48, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ohhhhh those tabs!!! OK it added the tabs but when I click on it IE says "Error on Page" so the documentation is correct, no dice.

== Welcoming Newbies ==

edit

Hey There,

I noticed you put a reference to a speedy tag on a new user's page without "welcoming" them. I always try to put a {subst:welcome!} on a newbie's page in addition to the warning -- encourages them to "try, try again", you know? Just a suggestion. We were all newbies once!!  :-) Anyway good luck with the adminship. Cheers, laurap414 (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 16:53, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for suggesting that. However, I don't believe WP:TW has a function to add {{subst:welcome!}} on a page when it is not there. Please note that the messages on the talk page are completely automatically generated. Please review WP:TW for details. Have a great day! - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 16:56, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

That's why I do all my patrtolling "by hand" ;-). Where would I suggest this modification to TW? laurap414 (talk) 16:59, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, yes I just noticed the older edits - they've now been reverted. Unfortunately I'm not an admin so can't block the user, but I've added a level 3 warning - the next warning is a level 4 then a repeat should result in a blocking. --JD554 (talk) 14:36, 28 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

In a September edit to Triclosan you added information about a product and cited the product's own "techbrief" as a source. It would be helpful if you could add a source that's not related to the manufacturer of the product. -Miskaton (talk) 22:45, 23 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

{{adminhelp}} Can someone please semi-protect New Orleans Saints? The Indianapolis Colts and Drew Brees are already protected. Also consider protecting other Superbowl articles. laurap414 (talk) 21:07, 7 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

There has been a related debate on WP:VPR#Semiprotection of BLP articles for Super Bowl players whether to preemptively change the protection for anticipated vandalism. The articles you mentioned have already had some vandalism. The Saints article has not yet been hit yet, but the article is on users' watchlists. Cheers. (edit conflict) Hi Laurap414, the users who respond to {{helpme}} requests are not necessarily administrators, so we don't have any power to protect these pages. You may wish to file your request at requests for page protection. Alternatively, you can use {{adminhelp}} if you need help specifically from an administrator. Thanks! --Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 21:18, 7 February 2010 (UTC) THANKS!!!Reply

I see what you are saying but then why is Colts protected (it's not a BLP)? Also the Saints has had some minor vandalism already today (not counting mine ;-). Cheers, laurap414 (talk) 21:24, 7 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

I cannot speak for User:JForget, who was the one who protected that Colts article yesterday.[1] I guess that admin felt there was enough frequent vandalism within the few hours before he changed the protection. As for the Saints article history[2] there only has been a few edit to that page in the last few hours, not enough to protect now IMO. But that might change later today. Cheers. ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. New deal for page patrollers

edit

Hi Laurap414,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:28, 13 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
