Request for edit summary

edit

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 0% for major edits and 0% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 16 minor edits in the article namespace.)

This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear impolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 05:31, 3 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Edit summaries

edit

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labelled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted, so please always briefly summarize your edits, especially when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.

Hi Findulas 09, I fully agree with your recent edit of The Unbearable Lightness of Being. However, I suggest you add next time something like rm deals heavily with philosophical concepts. The cut-paste operation does not take much time and the people who watch the page get an idea what is going on there. They might try to find another formulation of the sentence etc. Regards JanSuchy 07:27, 8 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Richard Dawkins

edit

You may be unaware that your spelling "correction" on the Richard Dawkins article was changing the spelling from British to American spelling. On Wikipedia, if the subject of an article is British, we use the British spelling - centre instead of center, defence instead of defense. If an article subject is neither American nor British, the first major contributor's useage is retained and maintained. See American and British English spelling differences for a thorough explanation of how this is usually handled. Let me know if you have any questions! Hi, Finduilas 09, and thanks for your contributions to the article The Chronicles of Narnia! I thought you may be care to know that there is a WikiProject working to improve articles about Narnia, and your help would be greatly appreciated. Please consider joining the WikiProject Narnia. Thank you! Fbv65edel / ☑t / ☛c || 04:03, 20 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

That's all right, just having your name on the list lets us know you're willing to help out if we need it, or, if we ever send out a newsletter, you will receive it. No obligation though, I just saw your positive improvement to the article and decided to see if you were interested. --Fbv65edel / ☑t / ☛c || 22:51, 14 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
