In-universe info./trivia

edit

Please look at Wikipedia's guidelines for writing about elements of fiction. Many of your additions, besides lacking citations to reliable sources, offer only in-universe information (often WP:TRIVIA) about the topic. Please keep in mind that Wikipedia focuses on real-world, "out-of-universe" treatment of elements of fiction; you might find projects like the Memory Alpha wiki a closer fit to your interests. --EEMIV (talk) 04:31, 11 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Happy to help; let me know if I can do anything to help. Also, please sign your posts by typing four tildes (~~~~) at the end. Thanks! --EEMIV (talk) 04:51, 11 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sig

edit

Please stop using the StarTrek Wikiproject userbox in your signature. You can put the box on your user page at User:Cdmajava, but plopping it down every time you write something or sign with ~~~~ creates clutter and is an abuse of userboxes.

Additionally, you don't need to create a "new section" every time you put something on another editor's user page -- and general custom is that when an editor initiates a "conversation" by posting something on your user page, you will respond right below on that same page. So, if you have any response to the request/observations I've outlined above, please just hit the "edit" text to the far right of the bold "Sig" section header (or hit "edit this page" at the top) and respond here. Your page is on my watchlist; I'll see any additions you make.

Thank you! --EEMIV (talk) 05:26, 11 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Contact info.

edit

Rather than listing your e-mail address is plaintext, you might instead want to go to WP:EMAIL and follow the directions there to allow Wikipedia users to contact you that way. An "E-mail this user" link will appear on the left-side toolbox, and you won't then be planing your e-mail address right on your user page for spambots and the like to find. --EEMIV (talk) 18:53, 23 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

How do I make new pages?

Just go to a page that doesn't yet exist, and where the "edit" tab should be, you'll see a "create this page" tab. Hit it, and you'll reach the edit form for creating the page. An easy way to get to the non-existent page is to link to it (like User:Cdmajava/Foo), hit preview, and click the link.

Oh, and you should see this:

WikiProject Artemis Fowl Status Table

edit

You don't need to update Wikipedia:WikiProject Artemis Fowl/Participants/Table each time you need to make an edit. Usually it's only updated about once a week or so, that's all that is needed to keep track of who's active or not. Calvin 1998 (t·c) 03:06, 9 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Adoption - Improving Articles

edit

Just so you know you would be my first adoptee, I have thought about the adoption process and read through several other editors adoption pages and have come up with a set of tasks that I feel would be useful for an editor to learn as part of the adoption process in addition to ongoing questions and answers.. These can be found User:Captain-tucker/Adoption Center, feel free to take a look. Wikipedia is a very large system and I have learned a lot in the six months I have been editing, but I will be the first to say that I don't know everything but I will do my best to help you learn all of the basics. If your are OK with everything please just reply here and we can get started officially. BTW, just curious anything in particular that made you choose me? --Captain-tucker (talk) 14:03, 11 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

isaw taht you were a big reader and that you were good at improving articles. I'm a big reader as well, but I'm not so great at improving articles. And I agree with list that you posted on your page. cdmajava There are always possibilities... 19:24, 11 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
OK, then lets get started. First, I created the following page in your userspace: User:Cdmajava/adopt, which I would like to use for all discussion regarding your adoption. I put some basic info there with a brief questionnaire and another link to the tasks that I mentioned above. You should also add the following userbox to your userpage:
{{Adoptee|Captain-tucker}}
I will take a look at your edit history to see what you have been working on and then I will leave the next step up to you. Ask some questions, try one of the tasks.....--Captain-tucker (talk) 19:48, 11 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Your recent edits

edit

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button   located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 06:38, 12 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Signature

edit

Tell me what you want your sig to be like; I'll make that for you too. (font, color, what links in it, etc...no images, though. see WP:SIG)

Once I'm done, you go to your preferences, click the 'raw signature' checkbox and put {{subst:User:Cdmajava/sig}} in the box there. (Once I make it tomorrow, NOT YET! =D -talk- the_ed17 -contribs- 07:00, 12 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

The sig I wanted was something like this:  Cdmajavatalk . That wont work because of the HTML in it.
Here's a tip: try creating a subpage, User:Cdmajava/sig, and then transclude it in your preferences as <span style="background: #000000; border: #800020 solid 3px; margin-right: .5em; margin-left: .5em"> <b>[[User:Cdmajava|<span style="color:gold">Cdmajava</span>]][[User talk:Cdmajava|<span style="color:red; font-family:arial narrow">'''talk'''</span>]]</b> </span>. Sorry for buttin' in, but I saw several of your comments stating about how your sig "didnt wanna work". ;) —La Pianista (TCS) 18:34, 12 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re:Unreadable Font Color Under Some Settings

edit

Hi Cdmajava,

what do you mean by unreadable font color? Do you mean my userpage? Or is it my signature? If it's unreadable, then I'd be happy to change it. :-)

PrincessClown 18:31, 14 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

For my settings, it almost everything you type with your (span style="color:black; font-family:")(/span) in front of it. I have my setting so that its a black background with green text, when you change you font color to black, the computer follows that order, keeps it black and all I see is a big black area followed by your signature (which, by the way, I can see just fine :D). For Example, the Neverending Story we're participating in, all I saw was the section before yours, a black spot, and mine. The only reason I knew there was something there was your sig. I have to highlight it to be able to read it. That reminds me, when you do change the color, make sure you put a (/span) at the end of whatever you're writing, before your signature. If you don't it will trun whatevers after it, that color too.

 Cdmajavatalk  18:42, 14 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

It might be that see has to put </font color> after those instead. But her sig looks fine to me...? -talk- the_ed17 -contribs- 04:07, 15 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Incidentally, I think that you, Cdmajava, have to put a </span> somewhere in your sig...I think. -talk- the_ed17 -contribs- 04:12, 15 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
How would that fix the problem of me not being able to see her post?
Nothing, just a random observation. =) -talk- the_ed17 -contribs- 23:29, 15 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Ahhh. ok. well, my sig does have a </span> in it.  Cdmajavatalk

Of course they matter. If you pass with a 3 or up, you don't have to take that course in college. Me, I'm going to a Community College then a university. Cdmajavatalk  02:21, 16 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well, yeah, I guess...I did get out of 22 credits...I just don't want to boast that I did decent on the tests...same with the ACT...
If I can ask, where do you go to school? You are always on at only 9-11 p.m. my time! -talk- the_ed17 -contribs- 03:17, 16 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Florida, you? I got a 1170 (out of 1270 needed) on the SAT and a 26 (out of 28 needed) on the ACT, both qualify me for a medium level schaolarship, but rule me out for a 100% scholarship.  Cdmajavatalk  20:29, 16 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
The U.P. of Michigan, at NMU...so you are on from 10 p.m.-12 a.m. everyday. Pleh. =) Ooo close (at least on the ACT, I don't know anything about the SAT!). For me, I only took the ACT and got a 31. I then got $3000 a year from NMU...not too bad. -talk- the_ed17 -contribs- 21:31, 16 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

The SAT is graded out of 1600, i got 1170. The score of 1170 on the SAT qualifies me for the 75% level of funding of the Bright Futures Scholarship Program, the top amount is 100% (DUH!) but the score needed for that is 1270. The ACT (examination) is finish later g2g Cdmajavatalk  01:03, 17 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I got through high school already, (see this!) and I am now a freshman in college! =) I'm going to major in Secondary Education-Social Studies...i.e. I'm hoping to become a high school history teacher. Adoption

edit

As you have not really been doing much editing, and you have not been asking any questions or working on any of the adoption tasks I think that it makes sense to remove the 'official' adoption designation. I realize that some of this may have to do with having a limited internet connection. And this certainly does not mean you can not ask me any questions.
