Space shuttle

edit

Hi Basil, I notice you have moved many pages with Space shuttle in the title, with the reason that "Space Shuttle is always capitalized". I'm sorry to disagree, but this is not true. "Space shuttle" is not a proper noun, unless used in combination with a specific orbiter name, (and not even NASA always capitalizes it then), on Wikipedia, we capitalize when combined with a specific orbiter name, and italicize the orbiter name. Please visit NASA's shuttle page, and on the left, there is the column "NASA Fact", which changes quite often, but nearly always has a fact about the shuttle, and it is not capitalized. Today's says: "Mission STS-122 will be the eighth time space shuttle Atlantis has visited the International Space Station." View this image that is the header for their shuttle page: "The space shuttle is the most complex machine...". For comments here on Wikipedia, refer to the peer review for Featured Article Space Shuttle Challenger disaster, "Space shuttle isn't a proper noun so should be lower-case." Once the peer review was done, it went on to become a featured article. The pages you've moved, Space Shuttle missions table, Space shuttle crews‎, Space Shuttle thermal protection system‎, and if there were more than those three, all should be moved back to the proper capitalization of the title. However, because moving over a redirect can cause page history issues, if you're unfamiliar with how it is done, I'd suggest you request an administrator move the page back, to preserve the article and talk page history. Please don't take this negatively, as I'm sure you had only the best intentions, and it is a common misconception that the term is a proper noun, and I hope you understand I'm not criticizing you at all, just pointing out that the naming was previously correct.   ArielGold 23:16, 16 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
