The Order of the Propitious Star of the Punjab (Persian: Kaukab-i-Iqbal-i-Punjab) was an order of the Sikh Empire and established by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 1837. Awarded by the Sikh court, the order was bestowed to important courtiers, diplomats or envoys.

Classes

The order was comprised of three classes, [based on the recipient and differentiated in the stones used.]

  • The first class was intended for princes of the Sikh Empire. Consisted of diamonds only for the stone.
  • The second class was intended for "relatives and brotherhood" of the Maharaja. Consisted of diamonds and emeralds for the stones.
  • The third class was intended for "high dignitaries, colonels, and those providing honourable service". Consisted of emeralds only for the stone.
