Jehovah's Witnesses

edit

Take a look at all the feedback given by Levivich over at Talk:Jehovah's Witnesses. Most of it is lead feedback.
Consider using the following as sources (beyond my book collection)

General thoughts:

  • Do something about the remaining primary sources cited in the article where I can.
  • Expand the eschatology section with content about the overlapping generations teaching/prophetic dream about the Anglo-American empire
  • Rethink recent move of "gender roles" subsection to "organization". Most of it fits but the last few sentences are a bit out of place. Maybe some sort of LGBT section? That wouldn't solve the sentence about modesty, though.
  • The opposition section could be much more fleshed out. Consider a separate section for other government interactions/legal cases? List of Supreme Court cases involving Jehovah's Witnesses and Jehovah's Witnesses and governments offers some possible starting points of what to consider adding. Persecution-wise: the Canada, Nazi Germany, and Russia sections could be much more fleshed out.
  • A possible classification section after the lead? This could go into the more complicated terminology and be a place to put all the jargon that's currently in the first sentence. This could also mention the new religious movement/cult descriptors used by some reliable sources.
  • The lead should probably make the distinction between the Bible Students and Jehovah's Witnesses clearer.
  • Consider if "beliefs" and "practices" is the best structure. There's a lot of overlap between the two and it can make writing without a bunch of repetition difficult. Evangelism might work better as a standalone section than a subsection. There should also be some written content in the article explaining the increase of preaching methods like jw.org, JW Broadcasting, and street witnessing. Explain what a "pioneer" is. Mention the distinction between JW preaching and Mormon preaching (the two are often confused due to similarity of door-to-door preaching methods but JWs don't limit preaching to a "mission" like the LDS Church and people of all ages are expected to participate).
  • Add content about family worship to the family life section. There should also be content about children, many sources make a point to note that JWs don't offer child-specific services like Sunday School and keep everyone together.
  • Add content about 1975 in unfulfilled predictions. Also explain the concept of "new light" and older JW publications being destroyed if they're "old light".
  • Add content about the alleged child abuse database. [17][18][19][20] The Watchtower was fined four million dollars for refusing to share their documentation on CSA. [21]
