Wikiproject Aerospace: Proposal

edit

This is a proposal for a new Wikiproject, to deal specifically with articles related to the theory of flight, flight science and flight technology; i.e. articles concerning the principles and mechanics of flight. I tentatively suggest a name of Wikiproject Aerospace, but suggestions are more than welcome.

I want to stress that my intention is not by any means to snub Wikiproject Aircraft, who I believe have done and are doing a fantastic job in organising, improving and standardising articles on aircraft; I simply believe that the flight science aspects I have listed above would benefit from the dedicated emphasis of a separate Wikiproject.

If you are interested in taking part, please sign up at the list of proposed WikiProjects. Also, feel free to discuss this proposal on the talk page here. Many thanks. Chrisd87 16:42, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

How is this significantly different from Portal:Spaceflight?

Apart from the principal difference between a Portal and a Wikiproject (a Wikiproject is an organised attempt to improve pages on a given subject), the idea I am proposing is concerned with the technical and theoretical aspects of atmospheric flight, and also by extension spaceflight. The important distinction is between this and Wikiproject Aircraft, who have been doing excellent work, focussing mainly on specific aircraft. Chrisd87 20:25, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
