Too detailed and confusing

edit

Does this navigation template really have to have so many collapsible subsections with so many links? It needs to be simplified because its ridiculously hard to use it at the moment. EelamStyleZ (talk) 02:47, 15 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

LTTE leaders

edit

We cannot be adding everyone as per Obi2canibe but we do need to have more than one person.Tamilselvan, Anton Balasingham did conduct Political negotiations for the LTTE you may political or civilian in this context. User Cossade removed all leaders except Prabhakaran .In the LTTE only Prabhakaran will not appropriate we need to have a few military leaders but not all.Kittu died in 1993 maybe adding him here might not be appropriate.Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 08:35, 17 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

It's easy to decide who's civilian and who's military on the Sri Lankan side but it's more difficult on the LTTE side, not least because Prabhakaran was an absolute leader. Balasingam never went into combat and can be considered to be a civilian. Tamilselvan did take part in combat in his earlier years but later on took on a political role and this was what he was most well known for. Although Kittu died in 1993 he was a senior figure for many years. Others we might want to include are the heads of the Sea Tigers, Air Tigers and Black Tigers.--obi2canibetalk contr 16:10, 17 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
I agree with you.Actually another editor removed all of them hence as a compromise maybe that Kittu can be removed.Soosai should be there as he 2nd senior-most and was there all through the war the leaders of the Sea Tigers and Air Tigers should be there. The leaders who carried Peace negotiations for the LTTE Balasingam,Tamilselvan,, Nadesan. But without making the template too large.Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 19:12, 17 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
I don't agree, S. P. Thamilselvan lead the negotiations but no references are given to prove his accentual power and Tamilselvan was given the title of Brigadier after his death by the LTTE there it could hardly be said that he is a civilian. Karuna Amman and Pottu Amman were unit commanders or regional commanders. These could hardly be stated as top leaders of the LTTE. As Obi2canibe, stated Prabhakaran was an absolute leader. If so then he should be listed as the only "leader" of the LTTE or addition of others as done so would be a form of listing notable leaders. The I think the same should be done with the Sri Lanakn military leaders to with addition of notable leaders as such. Cossde (talk) 14:53, 18 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Okay Reverted after comments above that Prabhakaran was the overall command and but feel must add Sea Tigers leader Soosai and Pottu Amman was the Head of the LTTE Intelligence Unit (TOSI) and the Black Tigers these 2 acted independently and were there all through Sri Lankan War joining around 1981.They were 2 and 3 leaders and the Senior Most in the LTTE after Prabhakaran and were there all through the War.We can do this without making the Template too large. Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 20:57, 18 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Agreed that we should add the heads of the various LTTE divisions (air, sea etc). Cossde, we can't create a list of notable leaders, it would be too long and who decides who's notable and who's not. And if Karuna Amman and Pottu Amman aren't important, why include Jagath Jayasuriya, Thisara Samarasinghe and Harsha Abeywickrama, other than the fact they all attended Royal College, Colombo ;-)?--obi2canibetalk contr 16:56, 23 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Jagath Jayasuriya was the Commander Security Forces Headquarters - Wanni largest command in form of number of divisions fielded in the history of the Sri Lankan Army at the final and most critical stages of the war covering some of the most important battles of the civil war.
Thisara Samarasinghe was Director General Naval Operations in 2006 oversaw the anti arms smuggling operations that lead to the distraction of several LTTE gun running ships in the Indian Ocean. In 2007 he served as Commander of the Eastern Naval Area during Eastern operations and in 2008, Commander of the Northern Naval Area during Northern offensive ensuring that the trapped LTTE units could not be evacuated or supplied from the sea.
Harsha Abeywickrama as Director Air Operations, he organized all air operations that support all army and navy offensive at the end of the war, which was the largest consternation of air power projected by the air force.

it is not just by chance the officers of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces are all well educated, we can not say the same about the so called leaders or spokespersons/figure heads of the LTTE. Cossde (talk) 13:13, 24 March 2013 (UTC) Cossde (talk) 13:13, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

I think you have made my point. We can all find reasons to include the people we favour. But we can't include every general, admiral and commodore in a 26 year civil war. Some kind of objective rule has to be set and this was only service commanders should be included.--obi2canibetalk contr 15:25, 31 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'm happy I was able to answer your question. As to your concept of objective rule in such a case only Mr V. Prabhakaran can be added, since as you said he is the absolute leader and the LTTE did not designate service commanders... or Im sorry the LTTE didnt have armed forces as they were NOT a legitimate military only a militant group with a bunch of "so called leaders" without a proper command structure or order of precedence. If LTTE leadership or head of a groups be considered notability to be added to this template, then I would say notable Sri Lankan field commanders should be added. Protests

edit

We cannot be adding everything over here. The Template should confined to the Sri Lankan Civil War ending in 2009 and major issues only .We cannot include every protest in the template this includes protests like 2013 Anti-Sri Lanka protests or Attacks on Sri Lankans in Tamil Nadu we cannot be adding every protest on either side of the conflict.Hence reverting it and it took place in 2012 3 years after the War got over there may be future protests be we cannot adding every protest here and they not are part of the Sri Lankan Civil War which ended in 2009.Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 08:32, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

In such case 1971 JVP Insurrection and UN Panel on Accountability in Sri Lanka can not be added since it took place in 2011.Cossde (talk) 10:30, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sorry if I was not clear UN Panel on Accountability in Sri Lanka or LLRC are related to the Sri Lankan Civil War and inquire into alleged human rights violation during the Sri Lankan civil War and are directly related to the Sri Lankan Civil War.There report covers the period of the Sri Lankan Civil War and hence part of the Sri Lankan Civil War.Through the reports were released after 2009.

1971 JVP Insurrection was the first major uprising or armed conflict in Sri Lanka before the Sri Lankan Civil War and hence added it. The protests in Tamil Nadu by Indian Tamil students or Local Tamil Nadu Parties protesting is not part of the Sri Lankan civil War and does not cover any period related to the Sri Lankan Civil War. There many be more protests they are not part of the Sri Lankan Civil War.The reports cover a period relating to the War.Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 10:50, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Ah therefore, the article covering the current protests and attacks should be included just as the 2009 Tamil diaspora protests have been included. It is incorrect to state that these protests are not part of the Sri Lankan Civil War, since the civil war has been cited as the reason for protests. If that can not be then Tamil diaspora protests falls under the same argument and must be removed. Cossde (talk) 12:45, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

We can take a 3rd person opinion on this if you wish.2009 Tamil diaspora protests was a very major one and a Global one in UK for 72 days outside the parliament,Canada,Germany,,Norway ,France, other European Countries ,Australia,Malaysia amongst others and very significant coverage in media all over the world and it was discussed in various parliaments. It was the biggest protest during the civil war and carried on for months globally.Hence it is added there is consensus for it.Protests in Tamil Nadu cannot be compared.Only major events can be included in the Sri Lankan Civil War page and this template do not come in this category.Protests in Tamil Nadu by students or local parties can have there separate articles but not be included here they are more related to Indian Politics. Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 14:15, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
The article it self is one that is under construction, it could as you suggested be merged covering the multiple attacks on Sri Lankans. However since these are repercussions of the civil war just as the LLRC and the UN report. If articles of lesser importance such as that of Pottu Amman can be added to the template I would be re-adding it. Please get a 3rd person opinion before removing it. Cossde (talk) 14:56, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Note I have not removed it some other editor has done it.I strictly follow voluntary 1RR .Sorry to disagree but think protests in Tamil Nadu by Local parties and students in 2013 do not come under SL Civil War .They have little impact compared to LLRC or UN report which are discussed in International diplomatic levels or Geneva human rights meeting. But please get consensus before adding it as other editors may remove it.Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 15:23, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
