I see that the notability of this game is called into question.

This game is notable for several reasons. It was the first board game to implement across the field of Arnor the epic third age war written of by Tolkien. While its quality or lack of quality might be a POV argument, the elements the game is composed of were fairly new and innovative at the time. Concepts such as monster placement on the board in a war game, permitting generals to move independently of armies and retinue, and demanding that diplomacy and army mobilization be the result of specific leader abilities or events (events that could be countered or even forestalled).

Also innovative was the implementation of armed force awareness -- a single "hidden" unit or leader could move through enemy territory or pass enemy units without notice. This has relevance in present military endevour and might be a future concern. As such, this game can be seen as noteworthy for reason of its timeliness, portrayal of realistic concerns as regards charismatic individual mobility, the multiple approaches to victory and loss that can be known, and its introduction of strategic event cards. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.255.31.139 (talk) 10:55, 24 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
