MacKenzie, Debora (2020-07-19). "What happens when flu meets Covid-19?"

This is a bad source. It's full of speculation and inaccuracies. For example, viral interference does not explain the seasonality of viral infections. Graham Beards (talk) 18:21, 6 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

no proposed mechanism?

So we have evidence of viral interference, but given our current understanding of germ theory and immune systems, it doesn't make a lot of sense. Bacterial infections often accompany a viral infection - pneumonia with flu and covid for example. This is assumed to be because the immune system is weakened, so it makes little sense that simultaneous bacterial infections are more likely, yet simultaneous viral infections are less likely. Something in our current explanations needs adjusted. 79.155.74.182 (talk) 10:39, 9 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
