"Deadly" battle of wits

edit

Is it implied that it was to the death? Did the yotunn die in the story after being defeated? I see talk of decapitation, but no mentions of anything like that in the article itself. What gives? Maurog 10:48, 19 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Clarity

edit

The article isn't entirely clear who won the battle of wits and who was decapitated. I assume Odin kept his head, but that's not entirely how the article reads.CallmeNiel (talk) 09:40, 15 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

The article should read more clearly now. :bloodofox: (talk) 20:05, 15 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

This article had some minor grammatical and punctuational errors, including a missing subject in the third sentence (it said, "In Germanic mythology, was a wise frost giant"; I added the giant's name before "was"). I also unified the spelling of the giant's name in favor of Icelandic, but instead of removing the alternative spelling altogether, I added a note after the meaning of his name in the first sentence stating that his name can be anglicized as "Vafthruthnir"; however, whereas the article originally included the spelling "Vafthrudnir," I anglicized it as "Vafthruthnir" since the letter "edh" (or "eth") represents the voiced interdental fricative (the voiced th-sound, in common vernacular), and thus "Vafthrudnir" is incorrect. In total, I did not make any change to the content of the information that was provided in the article before I found it; I merely fixed errors in style, grammar, and punctuation. --Balarick (talk) 06:34, 19 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Dronke?

edit

Why is Dronke (1997) being cited as a source here - and in a recent expansion, as a reference? Neither volume of her Mythological Poems includes Vafþrúðnismál - unless I'm going blind. Is the reference to introductiory material on one of the other wisdom lays? Yngvadottir (talk) 01:20, 5 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
