Talk:The Paideia School

Latest comment: 1 year ago by Alarob in topic “Less segregated” segregation academy?

Previous edits to this page note certain calendar items. The Paideia School calendar varies from year to year. The school is non-sectarian and vacation days have no reflection on school philosophy or beliefs. As we have time off for may reasons, New Year's Day, Christmas, teacher planning days, etc. It does not seem correct to reference any days off, or you will have to cite them all. Previous versions of this page had a paragraph describing the school's music, chorus, and ultimate frisbee team, indicating that in these areas the school is "widely known". This paragraph had been heavily marked as needing external citations. I recommend removing the paragraph altogether for now, which I have done in today's editing session. If Paideia has truly remarkable programs in these or other areas, it would be fine to write them up in this entry. What would those areas be?

I also think we could do a better job with the history section. Paideia has an interesting history as schools go, so we should tell it well here (and everywhere that we tell it - speaking as a parent of a graduate and a current high school sutdent). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wmball (talkcontribs) 5 January 2008

Photo of main building still needed; my camera could not focus on the building for some odd reason. I'll try again. --mav (reviews needed) 00:51, 26 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Jewish and Christian feasts

edit

The following sentence was repeatedly removed : "In the schoolyear 2017-2018, it celebrates the Jewish feast Rosh Hashanah, but no Christian feast.[1]

  1. ^ Site of the school, Schoolyear 2017-2018.

Is it possible to know why this school celebrates Jewish feasts and no Christian feasts ? Marvoir (talk) 14:15, 4 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

To refer to vacation days that fall on Christian or Jewish holidays, such as Christmas or Rosh Hashanah, as celebrations is a clear exaggeration. This "talk" section should be removed. “Less segregated” segregation academy?

edit

The sparse “History” section notes that Paideia was founded at the same time as the 1971 “segregation academies” for white students fleeing racially integrated Georgia public schools. But it asserts that the founders of Paideia sought to create a “less-segregated” private school. Less segregated than what? This suggests questions about the mission of the founders and whether all of the initial students were white. When did Paideia become integrated? Has no one documented the school’s history? — ob C. alias ALAROB 05:56, 22 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
