Clarification on 1896 and "Nassau"

While the hospital's history may say they were founded in 1896 and began as Nassau Hospital, Nassau County didn't exist until 1899. Present-day Nassau County was part of Queens County, and when the western 1/3 of Queens joined NYC in 1898, that set the other 2/3 of Queens on a track to become a new county called Nassau County.

I wonder when the hospital actually opened (for all we know it could have been founded on paper in 1896 but opened later), and I also wonder what the very first name was. 108.41.195.229 (talk) 02:13, 27 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
