"Its name in Finnish — as sometimes given on maps and in other Finnish-language documents — is Maarianhamina." This sentence should be removed. The population of Åland and Mariehamn don't wanna risk that somebody might believe it is an official name. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.204.59.72 (talk) 21:30, 30 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Err, but it is its official Finnish name! --TonyM キタ━( °∀° )━ッ!! 11:26, 14 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Unilingually

edit

"Mariehamn is unilingually Swedish-speaking and around 89.5% of the inhabitants speak it as their native language."

How can the place be defined unilingual when only 9/10 speak the majority language natively? Either the non-Swede's have stopped speaking their mother tongues, or there is something funny going on with the definition of unilingual. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.220.141.180 (talk) 18:03, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's likely that this IP has found an answer in the past five years, but just so there's one here: in Finland a "unilingual" municipality is one that only has one official language. A municipality may be declared unilingual if the language minority is below a certain percentage. More on this, and a map of uni- and bilingual municipalities, at Languages of Finland. 85.226.204.42 (talk) 13:22, 18 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Leaning

The building with the caption "St.George's Church" seems to be leaning at an odd angle. Admittedly, I am not interested in the denomination involved. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.112.11.135 (talk) 10:52, 18 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
