Passive stops

Does anyone have any details of the undeveloped Racecourse and Brennanstown stops? ww2censor (talk) 22:29, 11 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism on 7 August

edit

Looks like a joke started on social media (I saw it on Twitter) and people are vandalising the article to say the Luas is free as a result. Autarch (talk) 22:56, 7 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

It was an attempt to start a "disinformation campaign" that quickly spread on social media. https://twitter.com/TVsCarlKinsella/status/1423256199458349057?s=19 Thenoobgaming (talk) 17:07, 8 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I had missed that. Autarch (talk) 17:44, 8 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

There is a question of whether the hoax deserves a mention on the page, or whether it is undue. Any mention promotes the hoaxer. Any top level heaving is undue. I removed a contribution today on the basis the hoaxer had linkage to the added bare URL. I would suggest greatest care is taken in any attempt to re-add without consensus. The stop names.

edit

Should we rename them tram stop rather than Luas stop seeing that other countries use tram rather than their company name? And can we also give the unused stops pages since Kishoge already has it’s own page? 2A02:8084:6180:5500:FD1C:2CF4:7480:D2D7 (talk) 16:27, 19 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

In fact this is preventing the use of the {{Tram}} template (it expands station name to station tram stop) nor the use {{Tstop}}. (it expands station name to station stop; doing this now will be incorrect because Luas is not part of the stations name).

Luas or tram?

edit

I recently converted the articles from Luas stop to tram stop. However Guliolopez recently questioned my decision and the fact that I didn’t give an explanation. Now that I think about it, I feel like either title could work. which one would you guys prefer to call them? Luas stop or tram stop? Share your thoughts below. JoshuaW56 (talk) 20:45, 23 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

While I don't have particular strong opinions, I felt that a significant volume of moves (effectively a bulk action impacting multiple pages/templates/etc) probably required at least some discussion. Especially when the changes, moving all or almost all Luas stop articles from "XXXX Luas stop" to "XXXX tram stop", were made without explanation, edit summary or move rationale. And, given that WP:COMMONNAME is what typically determines the title of an article (and more than a few references refer to these types of subjects as, for example, "Broombridge and Dominic Luas Stops, and [..] Sandyford/Brides Glen Luas Stops"), I wasn't personally sure whether the changes were supported by a policy-based reason. That several of the moves required additional DAB suffixes (not previously needed) also contributed to a concern. If there is consensus (for WP:CONSISTENTcy reasons or whatever) that "XXXX tram stop" is better, then that's fine with me. Mine is more a procedural concern.... This was brought up before - two items up on the page, but without any proper debate occurring. I think COMMONNAME is clear - they're Luas stops. Why that practice developed out there in the real world, who knows - the old tram stops, including on the massive system Dublin once had, were so called, but somehow, maybe as there were practically no trams on the island for a couple of generations, the "Luas" monicker grew with the new system. Personally, I'd favour leaving them alone as "Luas" as that's what's in use. But "tram stop" is more universal, and is what an outside person might look for, so anyway, redirects each way are needed. And yes, bulk moves really must be debated, and I'm glad there is now a discussion. The good faith of the moving editor is clear, but time for the community to weigh in now. WP:COMMONNAME. The Paris Metro has Metro stations, not tube stops. The London Underground has tube stations, not subway stops. The New York Subway has Subway stations, not Luas stops. We have Luas stops, not tram stops. It's always referred to as the Luas here, never the tram. (And, of course, it was always free!) Concur with Guliolopez, any mass move should be discussed first. I'd agree, their common name is Luas stop, and as long as there's a functional redirect in each case, no one not familiar with the Dublin tram system should be confused for long! Iveagh Gardens (talk) 19:33, 25 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
The system is normally referred to as the Luas rather than the tram system. Luas conforms to WP:COMMONNAME. Bastun's argument, above, about the Tube, Métro, and Subway (and also the DART in Dublin and the Muni and BART in San Francisco) are also persuasive. It's Luas rather than tram for me. Hi JoshuaW56. Based on your edit summaries here and here (seemingly agreeing with and acting upon the apparent consensus above), do you think you can start fixing/restoring the original titles please? Or do you need help doing that? Guliolopez (talk) 16:04, 30 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

I could do it later today since I’m heading into college atm, but if you guys wanna start ahead at it, be my guest. JoshuaW56 (talk) 10:08, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
I’ve gone and moved them, but for some reason it isn’t letting restore Milltown. Can you help me with that? JoshuaW56 (talk) 11:42, 5 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Same isn’t working for Dundrum and Carrickmines.
Alternatively we could title the former Harcourt Street line stations as railway station since Harcourt Street and Broadstone are titled as railway station with their current Luas stops as headings. What do you all think? JoshuaW56 (talk) 12:56, 5 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

I can’t move Milltown, Dundrum and Carrickmines back to Luas stop

edit

I’ve gone back and reverted nearly all the stops, but it for some reason won’t let me revert these 3 stops. It says here "The page could not be moved: a page of that name already exists, or the name you have chosen is not valid. Please choose another name, or use Requested moves to ask for the page to be moved." Can you guys please help me move them back? I’d really appreciate it. JoshuaW56 (talk) 14:03, 6 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Ah, it's seeing the redirect page and blocking the move. An admin needs to do it. I'll ask now at Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests. BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 16:07, 6 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks a mil. Alternatively we could name them railway station since they were stations on the Harcourt Street line, but then again I’d be confused on whether to call Sandyford Stillorgan railway station or not. JoshuaW56 (talk) 13:43, 7 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Nope - WP:COMMONNAME. They're definitely Luas stops in the popular consciousness now :-) BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 16:02, 7 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
