Turn into a table

edit

If this list were a table, it would be possible to sort the sieges, e.g. by length, by the war they occurred in, by country, and whatnot. That would greatly enhance its accessibility and usefulness. 81.206.2.230 (talk) 19:43, 17 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

There have been two Sieges of Malta - one sixteenth century, and one WWII. What should be the nomenclature... World War II siege article has already been made Siege of Malta. --[[User:OldakQuill|Oldak Quill]] 23:00, 3 Jul 2004 (UTC)

I can't find a specific guideline for disambiguating in this case, but for battles and sieges, couldn't we disambig by year? Siege of Malta (1940) and Siege of Malta (16xx) would work, I think. [[User:Sverdrup|Sverdrup❞]] 01:26, 4 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Yes - for events, if none of them are significantly more famous than the others, disambiging by year is the most common way to do it. →Raul654 01:49, Jul 4, 2004 (UTC)

A longer list

edit

This query returns more articles on sieges than are currently in the list. Perhapse if someone is interested they can run it and add the sieges which are not already in the list. Philip Baird Shearer 08:24, 3 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

I've recently added a couple of (police) sieges, and I'm wondering just what criteria of size/duration/fame should determine what goes on this list? Obviously, if there is no limit placed on how significant a siege must be to go on this list, this list could grow to thousands of entries, especially now that fictional sieges are being added. --WacoKid 18:25, 18 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Can someone add the siege of Stalingrad and Fallujah to the siege list?

More interesting list

edit

Here is my suggestion on making this a more interesting list: User:Mceder/Siegelist, comments and suggestions welcome. mceder (u t c) 19:40, 7 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fictional?

edit

Why has fictional been added? Isn't this supposed to be a list of historical sieges? surly 'Lord of the Rings' sieges belong somewhere else, its off topic. Padraig Galvin (talk) 17:14, 15 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

What is the greatest siege in history? Siege of Candia or Siege of Ceuta (1694-1727)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 47.61.174.9 (talk) 01:27, 10 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Early Syrian Civil War Sieges

edit

I'm not sure where to place them as they are different from most police sieges, but they don't fit well under the category "Military sieges". D3RP4L3RT (DERPALERT) (talk) 03:38, 18 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Siege of Nagorno-Karabakh

edit

Nagorno-Karabakh has been blockaded since 12 December 2022, when protesters claiming to be ‘eco-activists’ took to the streets. They alleged that illegal gold mining in Karabakh was causing environmental harm. Observers suggested the blockade was backed by Azerbaijan, which was denied by authorities in Baku, the capital. The ‘eco-activists’ ended their protest in April, when Azerbaijani border guards established a checkpoint at the entrance to the Lachin corridor, justified with claims that Armenia was using the road to send troops, weapons and ammunition to Karabakh. Armenia denied this, while Azerbaijan released videos of military-looking trucks being escorted by Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh. Iocodice (talk) 23:08, 27 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Siege of Miraflores to be removed?

edit

So this siege apparently refers to the events of civil unrest in Venezuela so it is clearly not a military siege. At the very least it should be moved to the police sieges section if not removed at all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gorgedweller (talkcontribs) 08:14, 11 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Church of Nativity and Lal Masjid sieges

edit

These sieges can be classified as police sieges just like the siege of Palace of Justice in Colombia currently is. Should I move these to the police subsection? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gorgedweller (talkcontribs) 10:10, 5 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
