To merge or not

edit

Oppose merge into Contract bridge - this is where this material came from when that article was getting unwieldy.Newwhist (talk) 13:39, 26 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

The book titled Fisheads

edit

A number of subsequent edits after the initial addition of the book titled 'Fisheads' to the 'Fictional novels' section have been reverted Sept 27/2013 (7:36am to 7:43am). Interestingly, see this article about the author William Cole. Newwhist (talk) 12:12, 27 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

The Same Person?

edit

Am I right in thinking that Sabine Zenkel is the married name of Sabine Auken? JH (talk page) 17:57, 12 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Vice versa, the former Sabine Zenkel is Sabine Auken, married to the Danish "bridge international" dk:Jens Auken for more than a decade. --P64 (talk) 19:29, 12 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
Apparently since 1994/95, Venice Cup#1991 to date. --P64 (talk) 19:33, 12 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
Sabine Z A is one of the Women Stars with a "comprehensive biography" at WBF, more comprehensive than most.[1] --P64 (talk) 20:17, 12 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I think she's probably been the best woman player in the world over the last twenty years or so (though Nicola Smith would also have a claim). She's on my "to do" list of articles to write. Perhaps one day I'll get around to it. JH (talk page) 20:29, 12 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Sabine SZA played on the Germany open team that qualified to play in the 2015 Bermuda Bowl. Standing first! with one day to go[2], sixth after a collapse[3] (needed 3+ of 60 VP in retrospect, scored 11+). Her open partner is the American Roy Welland (a page tagged for its origin) has previously played major European events only in the odd-years Open Championships; may be eligible to represent Germany by marriage to C. Henner? Auken–Welland played the big late wins vs Poland, Netherlands, and Bulgaria[4]

For now she remains linked She is no longer linked at WBF Women Stars[5] because although she is no longer among the top ten Women WGM. Here's that biog.[6] (Its parent "Biographies" directory is not served for me here.)

... WBF service is intermittent here; "Sign In" is required to follow the apparent link back to parent "Biographies"; perhaps I have never seen it. --P64 (talk) 01:27, 14 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Auken–von Arnim; 2005 pdf original (pp 1,8)

Another identity: Paul Mendelson

edit

I suppose that Paul Mendelson is not the bridge writer List of bridge books#xMx. See Talk:Paul Mendelson#Identity. --P64 (talk) 19:56, 13 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it is the same man. A search turned up this: [7] JH (talk page) 08:51, 14 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
A close read of the articles and referenced website is not convincing that they are the same person. One seems currently active in the television business and the other writer (of novels) is said to have moved on to exclusive bridge related activities. See this link. The pictures from the two website are different people. More evidence is required IMHO. Newwhist (talk) 13:20, 14 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
The text of that AceofTrumps website seems clear to me, JH, even without reference to the photos. It is not plausible to me that AceofTrumps would say nothing of the TV writing career. (Our Paul Mendelson is not in Category:Bridge writers, nor does it mention bridge. Merely it is the target of bridge-book wikilinks.) --P64 (talk) 14:28, 14 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
I should have been a bit more careful. I went by "He went on to write for television before focusing on, and developing, his career in Bridge and associated mind-sports", but I can't have read the Paul Mendelson article carefully enough, or I'd have seen that according to that he is still writing for the media (assuming that the Wiki article is up to date). JH (talk page) 17:53, 14 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

I unlinked mentions of the cards/casino writer from Paul Mendelson and reported resolution in the slightly renamed Talk:Paul Mendelson#Identity not. --P64 (talk) 17:32, 17 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
