Names

edit

I believe that we must add the names of some eminent linguists to this article who are on the LINGUIST LIST. Fellowscientist (talk) 15:07, 11 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

The List is a mailing list of calls, announcements, and events. There aren't really people on the List. ALTON .ıl 18:18, 25 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

New Server

edit

Linguist List changed servers recently so most of its functions are down. The heart of the thing is Multi-Tree, a self-adjusting comprehensive phylogenetic chart. Sine qua non. You can't get get it at this current time. The links in this WP article work but the destination has been changed to a mailing list, temporarily I hope. Meanwhile Ethnologue has expanded its ancient language codes. You can fill in from there but it is no substitute for Linguist LIst's Multi-Tree, maps and bibliographies.Branigan 03:07, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

PS. I can't see how you would even think of deleting this essential linguistics article. Linguist List and Ethnologue are the main agencies for the collection and publication of data on modern and many ancient languages. Ethnologue is the sole authorized agent for the assignment of ISO codes. Linguist List works closely with them. These two pretty much decide what is a language and what a dialect for ALL the world's languages. Whoever put it up for deletion is no friend of WP.Branigan 03:16, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

I am confused

edit

From the Linguist List website, they state they are based at the Indiana University and have no government grants or funding (http://funddrive.linguistlist.org/faq/). However, at the web page at http://linguistlist.org/about.cfm, the Linguist List says they get some funding for technology and infrastructure projects from the NSF. This sounds sort of obscure and vague.--Filll (talk | wpc) 17:05, 25 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
