I have slightly improved this section:

mentioned Britain and Ireland
generalised the explanation to goose barnacles in general
modified word order in one sentence

I feel that this section needs further improvements, including:

link to Barnacle goose myth - either directly in the text or (to be decided) in a separate 'see also' section
perhaps, link to Gerald of Wales
perhaps, mention both barnacle goose and brant goose
