Translation
edit- халуун = hot
- халиун = Dun (color) [1]
Can't find the latter in any dictionary, though. Does it have multiple meanings? --Latebird 13:44, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- You are right, khaliun is not warm. judging from a short google search in mongolian it might be some kind of deer or antelope. Yaan 13:55, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- It's a type of coloring for a horse, check the link above (or the google cache if the site still is unreachable). Those other animals probably have similar coloring. --Latebird 14:00, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- Khaliun buga = red deer. soo - is (in mongolian) the deer named after the coulouring or the couloring named after the deer? --- or, would the sum be named after deer or rather after a horse coulouring? Maybe we need a native speaker. Yaan 14:27, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- Vietze adds yet another suspect: Khaliu(n)=Otter. However, Native speaker says default meaning is horse colour. Thanks a lot for finding the mistake.

- My very old Vietze de->mn has the otter as халиг... --Latebird 17:57, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- Mine is some pirated copy from (presumably) some outdoor market in UB. Or maybe today is just not my day (see also [2] ). Yaan 18:07, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- just for the record, my mn -> de Vietze (looks like a photocopy of the Langenscheidt edition on the outside, but may as well just be a photocopy of the 1988(?) GDR edition) really says khaliu(n) = otter, while my (original!) 1982(?) de -> mn Vietze says otter = khalig(an). P.S. One of these days I am going to write an entry on Prof. Vietze :-) Yaan 06:57, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
