Vision and Mission

edit

First of all, thank you to whoever created this page; this article was definitely needed. It's much better than the United States Junior Chamber article. This JCI article needs further development, to include the initial history of the organization in St. Louis and the United States and the organization's vision and mission. Thank you, Rushyo, for cleaning this article up! It still needs work but it's better. Dagordon01 (talk) 01:47, 12 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Mark with tag-blue.jpg

edit

Image:Mark with tag-blue.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Notice to all JCI members who wish to contribute to this page

edit

Please read the Wikipedia policies WP:NPOV and WP:OR. Content should meet notability policy as well, as Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. You should always provide citations from an independent (ie. non JCI), reliable source. -Rushyo (talk) 23:13, 8 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

In other words, verifiability. Outside of the JCI website and other related website, there has to be some resource based on something besides an occasional newspaper article or personal experience. Dagordon01 (talk) 01:47, 12 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Prominent JCI Alumni

edit

Many names are often added to the Prominent JCI Alumni section, with little reference to verify they were actually members of the organization (WP:V). From the Lists (TOYA, TOYP), there are hundreds of such alumni, so the necessity of this section is questionable. The people listed under this section is an indiscriminate list, full of arbitrarily selected individuals. This section A) needs to be deleted, or B) converted into a separate List, or C) narrowed in scope to include only encyclopedic-relevant individuals to the topic (famous people who were in JCI or people famous to the JCI organization like JCI World Presidents). Someone is always arguing that John Wayne Gacy needs to be added to such a list or section (Talk:United_States_Junior_Chamber#John Wayne Gacy), which is a WP:REDFLAG. Rotary International and Kiwanis have no such sections, and the featured article on Knights of Columbus does have such a section that is narrow in scope (Knights_of_Columbus#Famous Knights). Unencyclopedic

edit

Opinion:

The article begins with the Philosophy, Vision and Creed of the organization. This gives an idea of what JCI is about but very indirectly and in a way that is not encyclopedic, IMO.

The article ends with 60+ internal and external links. Based on my understanding of Wikipedia, this is way too many.

In between the text reads more like a brochure promoting JCI than like an objective article.

Wanderer57 (talk) 19:21, 8 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

For example, the links to JCI organizations of various countries are probably unnecessary as the JCI website has a very extensive list of links. Wanderer57 (talk) 19:27, 8 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia is not a "free web site" for any organization who wants one. This article does not site sources nor is it useful for obtaining objective facts. It is advertising, nothing more. -Anonymous —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.123.38.137 (talk) 21:23, 1 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Agreed, this article reads like what one would expect from an organization's own website. The person above me said it best, advertising and nothing more. Mr0t1633 (talk) 06:08, 16 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Nonsectarian?

edit

So I guess that's the interpretation of "We believe: That faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life;", non-sectarian as long as you swallow some flavor of this? 72.228.177.92 (talk) 03:37, 8 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Merger proposal re Ten Outstanding Young Persons

edit

I propose that the content from Ten Outstanding Young Persons that relates solely to the Junior Chamber International be merged from that page into The Outstanding Young Persons of the World. This will leave the only content on Ten Outstanding Young Persons relating to those countries not affiliated with JCI, namely Taiwan. All other content is proposed to be moved and both pages disambiguated so that future updated will be appropriately recorded. It is also proposed to disambiguate at the List of The Outstanding Young Persons of the World. Comments are welcome here. Rangasyd (talk) 09:46, 14 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Proposed merge with Chiara Milani

edit

There's nothing at Chiara Milani but her one-year presidency of this organisation; that might just as well be covered here. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 14:43, 7 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Massive destruction of information

edit

The aim of Wikipedia is to give free access to information, not destroy 85% of this article without improving anything in its content. Is there a process available to remove admin tools to this synops ? --Eurobas (talk) 08:15, 13 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

There is process available for investigation of misuse of admin tools, see WP:RFC/ADMIN. But Dougweller did not need to use his admin tools to remove the copyvio here, any editor can (and should) remove copyright-violating material on sight, and he is to be thanked and congratulated for doing so here, where there's been a long history of copyvio and COI editing. Edits where material was copy-pasted from the JCI website include this and this. Dougweller, had you considered rev-deleting the history here? And perhaps a {{cclean}} notice on this page? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:28, 13 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I meant to rev/del but forgot. So I've used my Admin tools this time and done that. Not sure it needs a cclean notice, how to you think it would help? Dougweller (talk) 09:51, 13 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
Just to document here for posterity why you've done the things you've done, in case anyone ever wants to know. I anyway do it pretty much as a matter of course (when I remember), but I think that the complaint by Eurobas makes it particularly desirable here. I'd do it but I can't – dammit! – now see what came from where, or when. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:46, 13 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
