It seems to me that Hierarchical storage management and Automated tiered storage are very similar concepts. Peter Flass (talk) 15:45, 11 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Having worked in the HSM storage industry for the past 10 years, I heartily agree with the previous comment, in that these are identical and should be merged. Scott Atkinson - Pawsey Supercomputing Centre — Preceding unsigned comment added by 27.32.200.163 (talk) 06:42, 25 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Approve the merge into the HSM page provided that any nuanced differences between the two are not lost. Perhaps a section on different HSM approaches? Gusfriend (talk) 06:31, 24 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

3850 ¬= HSM

edit

The article states HSM in the shape of the IBM 3850 Mass Storage Facility was (according to IBM) announced in 1974. However, the the 3850 is not HSM and the 1974 date is incorrect for 5740-XRB, Hierarchical Storage Manager (HSM). --Shmuel (Seymour J.) Metz Username:Chatul (talk) 15:45, 10 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Section on IBM Hierarchical Storage Manager

edit

Should details on IBM's Hierarchical Storage Manager go in this article or in Data Facility Storage Management Subsystem (MVS)#DFSMShsm? Note that 5740-XRB, HSM V1, and early releases of 5665-329, DSHSM V2, predate DFSMS. --Shmuel (Seymour J.) Metz Username:Chatul (talk) 15:53, 10 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
