Play Back

edit

When I start to record it, the game starts to lag and when I play the Video it was really laggy. Can someone tell me why?

Wikipedia is NOT a support forum. But anyway, choosing to capture at half-size should yield smoother results. Or if fullscreen is necessary, disabling sound sync can help framerate, but will desynchronyze sound with the video. --Omega Said 20:59, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, exactly. I have experienced horrible lag with my system with these factors turned on. Be sure to turn them off before proceeding. Have a good one, -- Steven Stone 02:57, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
It can also be a CPU-specific issue. Trying to record on a system with an overclocked 2.8 GHz CPU results in horrible quality and 6 FPS, even though the CPU works at full capacity. Or maybe program-specific, as recording from an already low-FPS movie yields that results, but recording from an older game is flawless.--89.147.67.118 (talk) 14:13, 2 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

This needs to be changed: "The Fraps video codec manages to capture videos with minimal impact on game performance, ...". Taken directly from the Fraps FAQ: "If you are recording a movie with Fraps there can be a noticable impact on the game. This is due to all the extra work involved in saving the screen data to disk." Fraps has no solutions to lag issues involving certain games. The above statement is biased in proclaiming a feat which shouldn't be attributed to Fraps, since in many scenarios it does the exact oposite as mentioned above. --Sarnox (talk) 04:21, 2 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Minimal and noticeable are not mutually exclusive. They both might qualify as weasel words - this article needs a serious re-write. But seriously, you gotta expect video-capture to cause extra load to a system. Bookbrad (talk) 05:48, 29 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

If one is having problems using dynamic video recording software, it is due to the computer lacking necessary hardware.
A good hardware specification set to fully utilize dynamic video recording is:

  • Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.66ghz or equivalent processor
  • 6Gb DDR3 1600mhz
  • ATI 5850 1gb or equivalent graphic card
  • 2 7200rpm 500gb Hard Drives in Raid 0 - Gameplay
  • 1 7200rpm 1Tb Hard Drive - Fraps

Try a compression

edit

Use windows movie maker, dump the movie in the bin, add it to the time line, and hit finish movie, after that, it should play smoothly!

Oh, i have some images of what fraps looks like in game, and a video, if someone whould tell me whare to post it and you use it to make the wiki look better, also, change the one picture to the fraps logo, not what fraps itself looks like

claim to check

edit

Fraps retail version has a hidden file inside it, blocking the use of wared full version.

Any source for that claim ? Unless properly sourced and checked, I can't say its okay to keep that line. Is he referring to the branding in every copy? Even if that's the content of the file he's referring to, it couldnt possibly block warezed use, as FRAPS does not require online activation. --Omega Said 21:35, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Take a computer you've never installed FRAPS on and install the free version. Now uninstall it and download and install a wared full version. The wared version will not work, no matter what crack you use. --User:Anonymous 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Yes, this as well may be a bug after installation in the processing of Fraps. I have tried what User:Lil Flip246 has said and the retail version proved unsuccessful to work, therefore yielding no progress at all. Keep that in mind, -- Steven Stone 02:59, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Using sandboxing, 2 temp files remain saved on the HDD, wether FRAPS is kept or removed. A new install attempts to replace those, wich is in this case is not allowed. No crcks would be necessary, since it'd be possible to install it sandboxed then move only the fraps folder out of the sandbox. So no, FRAPS does not have a hidden file that blocks _use_ of warez, only _installation_, confirming this is actually a check from the installer only.

I think this page should be split into sections. It would make it a lot easier to find what you're looking for. Kausill (talk) 07:24, 14 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

You are going to play a game named Tux Junior.

When pressing the F9 key, Tux Junior crashed, meaning you can't record an level using Fraps. Taetest (talk)

Listing the price of FRAPS

edit

Should Wikipedia be used to advertise the price of products if its not integrally relevant to what the product is? Why not just say that "a commercial version is available for purchase"? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Qed (talkcontribs) 03:09, 8 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

I agree - it makes no sense to give the specific price, especially since it's subject to change and for some reason has become subject to disagreement on this article.Bookbrad (talk) 03:55, 20 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

visually lossless format

edit

As if. You can see how "visually lossless" it is when your game displays small red text (as in enemy names etc.). As example: larger red text: http://picturestack.com/43/930/1aDaion201005lt5.bmp Smaller text as enemy names from distance can be up to unreadable in the video. --91.43.59.254 (talk) 23:21, 25 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

"Visually lossless" is an oxymoron.64.83.196.13 (talk) 18:49, 12 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Why? I think you just misunderstood the meaning of "oxymoron", or the "Visual and physical oxymorons" section of the article...—J. M. (talk) 19:32, 12 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I rewrote the paragraph to be less awkward.64.83.196.13 (talk) 21:54, 12 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Needs to be transcoded?

edit

Could someone find a citation for "the videos must be transcoded ... before the recorded videos can be played back smoothly on most media players"? FRAPS videos seem to play fine on both VLC and WMP on my computer. I've added a citation needed tag. Pokepal101 (talk) 07:20, 9 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

What did you watch an 240p recording?

Try a 1080p file and see how VLC and WMP cave in, a slideshow with 1fps is faster! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.204.206.150 (talk) 19:13, 7 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Grammar: Hyphen and age

edit

Hi.

This note about use of hyphen and age can be found in WP:HYPHEN as well as page 2 of How to Use a Hyphen by Grammar Girl.

When the length of time is expressed with a stative verb, it needs no hyphen, e.g.:

  • "He is two years old."
  • "This video is two minutes long."

But when it is used as a compound adjective, it needs hyphen:

  • "A 34-year-old woman saw him." (Also: "A 32-years-old woman saw him.")
  • "A two-minute-long video..." (Also: "A two-minutes-long video...")

Well... judging by the diffs of the article, I'd better call third parties. Best regards, Codename Lisa (talk) 01:33, 29 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
I dropped an edit warring notice on Taliska's talk and invited him to come here. If he reverts one more time, I am going to report him, because he is being very aggressive: Violating WP:BRD, not participating in this discussion so far (he should have started it) and inappropriate uncivil comments like "you don't own this page!" while not knowing the first thing about the English language. I'll ask a third person look at this topic too. Fleet Command (talk) 06:12, 29 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hidden development (not completely abandoned, perhaps)

edit

Sure, wikipedia doesn't like original research... but I think it's interesting to note that downloading the latest version of fraps from their webpage gives you 3.5.99.15627 which contains files date marked as having been compiled on 9/25/2018 (use 7-zip on the setup.exe)

Similarly, I have an older download of fraps, 3.5.99.15618, files date marked as 2/26/2013.

These files aren't binary compatible (the newer versions actually are bigger than the older versions)...

Just interesting to note 100.16.204.102 (talk) 15:53, 17 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
