edit

Is it just me or does anyone else think that this article is too much more like an advertisement. It seems like they are using WikiPedia to advertise for the University. UzEE (TalkContribs) 01:02, 13 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have added template {{POV}} to the page to flag it for reviewing as per criteria stated under WP:NPOV. UzEE (TalkContribs) 01:19, 13 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Campus at Lahore

edit

Bahria University consists of constituent units which includes the institute of PN War College which is located at Lahore. So therefore University has campus at 3 locations including Lahore. Please before starting edit war again on this issue see this. --SMS Talk 19:45, 7 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Campus at Lahore is PN War College. It does not fall under the University Board. You being a Bahrian should also know that. The HEC doesn't even have any record of PN War College. It only accredits the Islamabad and Karachi campus so it doesn't belong in the infobox. Only Major campuses should be mentioned in the infobox (per WP:UNI guidelines) and not lists of campuses. So please donot add that again.  UzEE  20:25, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

As this dispute seems to have been resolved peacefully and in compliance with policies and guidelines, I have removed the listing from Wikipedia:Third opinion. — Athaenara 07:07, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

→ Restored (diff); see below. — Athaenara 19:33, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
The dispute is still not resolved! the university's official website is mentioning that[1]:
Other thing which I like to mention is that the editor first says that Lahore isn't a campus at all, then he says that it is a campus of the university but a minor one, so he is contradicting himself. And as far as HEC is concerned, so I only want to say that HEC isn't the authority to declare that a constituent unit of a university is a campus of the university or not. --SMS Talk 12:35, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
I may add that the Bahria Site is a first-party source, while HEC is a third party source. Wikipedia always gives preference to the third party sources, and if you remember, an institute can only be delcared as a campus, if its approved by the HEC. Its simply like your PAFA, it gives bachelors degrees but its not a university or a campus of the university as its not open to the public. Similarly, PN War College is not open for public. Its strictly for Pakistan military and operates under the Navy.  UzEE  12:49, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
HEC recognizes Bahria University[2] and since PN war college is a constituent institute of the university so it is also recognized. Another proof of this is that the students of PN war college receive degrees of Bahria University and degree of Bahria University is recognized by HEC. And the criteria for being a campus of a university isn't determined by this that the institute is open to public or not. And thanks for alloting me PAFA I even didn't knew that it is mine. Thanks a lot! --SMS Talk 19:11, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

As per Smsarmad's message to my talk page:

Third Opinion at Talk:Bahria University#Campus at Lahore
Hello! Sorry to say but the dispute here wasn't resolved at all! I was waiting for third opinion, but couldn't understand why you considered it to be resolved? --SMS Talk 12:12, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Sorry! I have restored the Third opinion request. — Athaenara 19:24, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I added a strikeout line through my first post above. — Athaenara 19:33, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

There are thousands of colleges that give bachelors degree of Punjab University. So they all should be considered campuses of PU? And HEC and PEC lists Islamabad and Karachi campus separately.  UzEE  20:51, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well there are many Affiliated units of Bahria University too, which I am not counting because they aren't the campuses. There is some difference between Constituent unit and Affiliated unit and you need to learn that. --SMS Talk 21:33, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please look at comparable articles for a guide here. The State University of New York has several different campuses, but the infobox lists only its central administrative location, which is Albany, New York. The University of California is known mainly for its campuses at UCLA and UC Berkeley, but its infobox lists only Oakland, the location of its adminstrative headquarters. In case you think this is because of differences in the structure of the system, Manipal University in India, which has a similar constituent colleges structure to Bahria, lists only the headquarters at Manipal and not the additional constituents in Indonesia and Sikkim. To be consistent, this article's infobox should list only the location of Bahria's administrative headquarters, which are in Islamabad. Relata refero (talk) 11:28, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Exactly my point. We should only mention Notable or Major campuses in the infobox even if do consider PN War College, Lahore as a campus. So listing Lahore there would be inappropriate.  UzEE  12:35, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Actually, we needn't mention notable campuses, merely the location of the administrative headquarters under "location". The SUNY article doesnt mention its campuses. The UC article merely mentions the number. Relata refero (talk) 13:54, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
I agree with you only the headquarter should be mentioned. --SMS Talk 21:48, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. Only the campus HQ should be mentioned.  UzEE  12:17, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Correction about Status of Bahria University

edit

Hey Wikipedia ! Randomly i was visiting different pages of Wikipedia of different universities of Pakistan this morning and i saw the status of Bahria University as Private Research university in the description but it is a Public sector university under the supervision of Pakistan Navy. I corrected the information by just click on "Edit" tab.
