Wrong name of Island

edit

The small island in the NE of Addu Atoll is called Hikahera and not Hikihera. Hika is a wrasse, a kind of fish. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.30.19.85 (talkcontribs)

Is it? I've always heard the island being referred to as Hikihera, Hiki being "thin". --Oblivious 19:13, 18 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

This is an error. It has always been Hikahera. Other alternative names are Kudavaahera or Maahaalkkedahera. But never ever "Hikihera". Ask someone from Meedhoo or Hulhudhoo or you may consult Muhammadu Ibrahim Lutfee. Divehiraajjege Jōgrafīge Vanavaru G.Sōsanī. Malé 1999.Mohonu (talk) 18:23, 19 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Stop proposing mergers

edit

Please stop proposing mergers between Addu Atoll and Seenu Atoll. One refers to the natural geographical atoll forming the country and the other to an Administrative Division of the Maldives. These are two distinct categories, both necessary in Wikipedia.Mohonu (talk) 08:03, 19 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

"Attu?"

edit

I noted the spelling "Attu" in the text in a few places, but I do not know whether this should be corrected. (It probably should.) 66.92.74.189 (talk) 15:21, 18 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Missing most of the information

edit

This article does not include Addu mayor's name and the climate in the city. I have tried adding mayor's name giving the appropriate reference into this, but it is not working yet. Can someone please help me in this issue. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gummz (talkcontribs) 23:44, 1 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Reopening can of worms

edit

As it has often been stated, each administrative division of the Maldvies has an official name, usually that of the main geographic/natural atoll within that administrative division. The names of the characters of the Thaana abugida assigned to each administrative division is merely a code, not a replacement of the official name of the administrative division. As such, the name of pages for the administrative regions of the Maldives in Wikipedia should bear these names, rather than the codes.

However, recognising that the Thaana character codes are now often used, I would like to propose a compromise of the naming convention for the pages incorporating both the official/traditional name and the Thaana character code to become the title names of pages of the administrative divisions of the Maldives.

Here are the proposed new names for administrative division articles, and the components for the template. The names and spelling conventions follow official Madivian government website (eg National Bureau of Statistics) for the atoll names and also the name of letters for the Thaana alphabet which are used as administrative division code names.

From north to south they are:
