Semi-protect??

edit

Should this page be semi-protected?? @Lugnuts: RIDHVAN SHARMA (talk) 06:49, 7 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

A quick look at the edit history suggests not yet. If vandalism increases, which could happen during the England/India series, then log a request at WP:RFPP. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:30, 7 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Okay 👍 @Lugnuts: RIDHVAN SHARMA (talk) 06:15, 9 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Live updates?

edit

2021–2023 ICC World Test Championship#Statistics seems to be getting updated every couple of hours- surely this is in violation of "no live updates"? The "best bowling figures in an innings" have been updated halfway through the England/India match, and half of the tables now make no sense because they same some people have played 1 match, others 2, as it's in the lowdle of the England/India 2nd match. Surely, we should only update stats at the end of a match? Or better still, don't have all the stats tables until a sensible number of matches have actually been played i.e. in about 6 months time. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:49, 13 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

It's pretty pointless to have all these stats with only one completed match (as of typing this). Maybe ditch the whole section for now, and as you suggest re-add in 6 months time. After the Ashes has been played? Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 19:29, 13 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

In a span of 6 months, a team at the top of table may slip even to the last spot. I'm not joking, it's indeed a true. So, as per my view, it is ridiculous to change the standings after a time span of 6 months. At the same time, it should not be changed during the halfway of an ongoing match, which will mislead the actual information. The better is to change the stats and standings just at the end of each and every test match.202.142.67.57 (talk) 08:24, 10 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

I think you might be talking about two different things. The stats tables should be updated after a completed match, not during a match. The question is whether the stats are needed at all until a few more matches have been played. There is always the problem with editors updating a single player in a table during a game, and not other players in the same match, which is indeed confusing... but yes, shouldn't be updating any until the match is finished anyway. The league table should also be updated after a completed match (not during) and nobody has suggested leaving this for six months. Bs1jac (talk) 13:06, 29 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, my dear Bs1jac (talk), but is not it a hilarious and pointless proposal to change the stats tables after a long span of 6 months? Then this page will become quite unupdated as compared to the other sites. So, why will anyone see an unupdated 6 months old page if a fresh and up to date page is available elsewhere? Thanks and regards, 202.142.81.5 (talk) 09:16, 30 September 2021 (UTC). P.S- I am the same person who did the third edit in this page [[[Special:Contributions/202.142.67.57|202.142.67.57]] (talk) 08:24, 10 September 2021 (UTC)], but my IP address has drastically changed in the course of time, as I am an non-registered user.Reply

Why not just hide the table until the tournament ends? This isnt a stats site so it doesnt have to updated freqiently. Also this will be less of a hassle. Human (talk) 09:53, 30 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

What do you want to mean by 'frequently'? As per my view, the stats table should be changed after each and every completed match, but no during an ongoing one.202.142.67.225 (talk) 10:25, 30 September 2021 (UTC) (Same person who did the 3rd and 5th edit)Reply

By frequently I meant after each match. As per above, the inclusion of the stats so early are questionable. The updating of the these tables are always a mess as editors don't update them properly. P.S. why don't you just create an account instead of writing "Same person who did the nth edit" everytime? It won't hurt. Human (talk) 11:54, 30 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Then, only a single editor who is quite expert in this context can be given the responsibility of updating the stats table after a match. That's the solution. If you agree, please reply me.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.142.67.225 (talkcontribs)

Disagree, as that violates WP:OWN- nobody is "in charge" of making edits. But I don't see the point of having the most runs/wicket takers right now, when they're all just from the teams that have played the most matches... Joseph2302 (talk) 14:45, 30 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

So what? If the points table can be made with 4 teams, then why the stats table can't? India-England and Pakistan-west Indies played simultaneously half-a-month ago. I think 4 teams are enough for making a stats table. It just needs to be updated as other series goes on. Isn't it?

P.S- If possible, see the section below and add your opinions about the real cause behind the cancellation of the 5th test of India-England series. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.142.67.225 (talk) 07:39, 1 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

India-England Pataudi Trophy

edit

Should we not remove the '*' sign from the result of this particular series in the points table?

The problem with this is that the series is not "over" (in that the result has not been determined since the Indian squad failed to play the last game partially so that they could get back for the IPL). It has not been determined whether the 5th game was a forfeit, simply cancelled, or whether it will be played at a later date. Bs1jac (talk) 13:01, 29 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

The match has been scheduled later as per the latest updates. For your kind information, 'Indian squad failed to play the last game partially so that they could get back for the IPL' is a completely wrong and misleading info. The match has been abandoned due to COVID related issues in the Indian camp. Waiting for your reply. Thank you, 202.142.81.5 (talk) 09:23, 30 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Absolutely, I agree with you 202.142.81.5 (talk)--202.142.81.12 (talk) 08:55, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

You are obviously the same person- your IP address has just slightly changed. Stop agreeing with yourself to make it look like two people. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:42, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Use the West Indies traditional flag

edit

Change the West Indies flag to the traditional marrone instead of using the flag of the state of Wisconsin, USA. 2405:6E00:D41:4100:7593:2F62:DF93:1122 (talk) 11:10, 21 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Continuous reversion of update

edit

Top two team at the end of league will qualify for the final, but as in ODI Super league, background of top 8 has been given 'CFC' whereas when same is done with this, it. is reversed, why? Anishssgj (talk) 13:43, 1 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

How WI & ENG could have qualified

edit

This is how ENG and WI can still qualify for Finals, I am writing possible results for future series, kindly make your own table to check.

Some results are common in both cases:

IND-AUS:0-4 [4]

AUS-RSA:3-0 [3](2-0 [2] currently)

NZ-SL:2-0 [2]

PAK-NZ:0-1 [2](0-0 [1] currently)

There is only one series that should have different results for WI & ENG to qualify

For ENG: RSA-WI:0-1 [2]

For WI: RSA-WI:0-2 [2]

This is just one of the possible combinations, there are many more possible combinations, I will be presenting those, if and when they are needed. Kaaryanm (talk) 03:28, 22 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Adding to @Kaaryanm point
If SL and AUS lose all their matches they will end up with 44.44% and 47.37% respectively. If ENG losses their last and final game they will be officially out as they will end up with 42.42%. Virander Sirohi (talk) 10:46, 13 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
adding to the point @Virander.sirohi
People just don't understand that having low pct. currently does not mean you are eliminated, but you will get eliminated if you don't improve.
If WI gets even a tie/draw/loss, then they will be eliminated, else they will be in the race.
Don't keep eliminating the teams before they are actually eliminated. Kaaryanm (talk) 12:47, 13 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
If some teams lose a lot of points from over rate deductions, then Bangladesh can make the final. It's very very unlikely, but it is technically possible. 110.145.178.230 (talk) 02:04, 16 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
@110.145.178.230 The slow over rate required for Bangladesh to qualify has never been seen in the history, so it is almost impossible, but for other teams, can qualify with just winning some matches which is very much likely. Kaaryanm (talk) 04:41, 18 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I agree with you 100%, it is ALMOST impossible for Bangladesh to qualify. Would you like the table to show what is "technically possible", or, what is "likely"?
One option is that we place a note on the table that explains something like this:
"Current deductions are taken into account when calculating who is eliminated, but any future deductions are ignored."
I think that would be a good compromise for everyone. I personally don't have the skill or confidence to edit the page, I will leave the decision to you. 110.145.178.230 (talk) 01:02, 20 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Also, while I think that this is irrelevant in the context of Bangladesh, it could be much more relevant for 2rd or 3rd place on the table. 110.145.178.230 (talk) 05:31, 20 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
How about we only show what appears in reliable sources rather than us doing original research? Spike 'em (talk) 05:50, 20 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Spike 'em: But mathematical calculations are not considered OR? A lot of reliable sources are claiming countries are "out" when they're not, mathematically speaking. Spa-Franks (talk) 11:16, 25 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
I don't think calculating multiple different scenarios and trying to make judgements on possible deductions can be considered ROUTINUE. Spike 'em (talk) 11:29, 25 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
I feel as though we all arguing the same point, but from different perspectives. As long as it is mathematically possible for a team to make the final, then they should not be listed as eliminated. This is consistent with every sports table that I have looked at on Wikipedia. 110.145.178.230 (talk) 22:34, 27 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Table

edit

Please stop putting unnecessary OR columns into the table. It has too many columns (many that are not in any of the sources) to be readable already. Spike 'em (talk) 09:32, 23 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Tie breaking procedure

edit

How is tie breaking determined? In the last season if australia did not lose 4 points due to slow over rate, australia would have been tied with NZ. The team higher RPWR would have advanced to final. But this season it is not mentioned how they can sort if PCT is tied. If PCT is tied, RPWR will be used. So RPWR should be displayed in the table. In the least cases, if RPWR also ties, how will they determine? 103.163.18.74 (talk) 07:27, 19 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

This season the RPWR has no role in tie breaking, if PCT is tied b/w two countries then the following will be checked
  1. Who has won the most number of series.
  2. if still tied then, most % of points in the matches played away from home
  3. if still tied then, the team with higher Test ranking will be placed higher
This is all in playing conditions. Kaaryanm (talk) 15:07, 11 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
This procedure doesn't make sense. If South Africa wish not to play with australia due to their own personal reasons, australia would have played only 5 series'. Out of that they won 3,lost 1 and drawn a series. If they are tied with the team which had played 6 series, Australia will be punished even if australia is ready to play with South Africa and South Africa is not ready to play 2405:201:C036:C15E:2976:5405:812A:3F55 (talk) 04:32, 11 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Syntax error

India vs Australia 2nd test hasn't yet completed but it's showing 1-1. I tried fixing it to 1-0. But an error occurs. Shobhit 2022 (talk) 12:47, 18 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
