Eve Brandstein (July 23, 1948 - present) producer, director, casting director. Eve Brandstein has been a major studio and network executive, a producer, a film and theater director, writer/creator, poet, and casting director. She is also an artist, psychotherapist, teacher, and workshop facilitator, who has led writing and performance groups.
Early Life and Education
editEve was born in Varnsdorf, Czech Republic, immigrating with her parents Jack and Chani Brandstein in 1950, who were Holocaust Survivors from the Carpathia area of Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and now Ukraine. Eve is the youngest child of 3. Her siblings Ruth and Oscar were murdered at Auschwitz. Eve was raised in The Bronx, NY as an only child after WWII. College CCNY, Grad school - Hunter College MA theater, American Film Institute, Phillips Graduate University - Masters MFT.
Career
editEve Brandstein began her career in the entertainment industry as a theater director in New York before attending the American Film Institute Directing Women's Workshop.
Brandstein was casting executive for Norman Lear's production companies. Her credits for casting over two decades include, "Diff'rent Strokes", "One Day At A Time", "Facts of Life", and "Who's The Boss" and dramatic series shot in Australia, "Beastmaster", "The Ponderosa". Eve cast the rock'n'roll parody "This is Spinal Tap." Brandstein and Anne Beatts formed B-Girls Productions in 1988 and have written and produced pilots for tv and documentary series The Girl In The Room about women in comedy. Series, "Funny Boys" about the early days at The National Lampoon. Brandstein and Beatts co-produced and co-directed 13 episodes of "John Waters Presents Movies That Will Corrupt You".
As a fine artist, Eve's work is shown at galleries in Los Angeles and New York. She is a publisher of The Hollywood Review, an anthology of L.A. poets and also the author of "The Actor – A Practical Guide to a Professional Career" and has published several collections and anthologies of poetry chapbooks. Eve is the producer of the reading series – Poetry In Motion, launched in 1988. Eve Brandstein and Anne Beatts[1] formed B-Girls Productions in 1988 and have wrote and produced pilots for tv and documentary series The Girl In The Room about women in comedy, and series "Funny Boys" about the early days at The National Lampoon.
Brandstein directed a multi-media theatrical production of Anne Frank's Diary for The Museum of Tolerance Los Angeles. She is the director of the recent long- running hit shows – Not That Jewish with Monica Piper and Rain Pryor's Fried Chicken & Latkes. She has directed over 75 theatrical productions on both coasts and Israel. NY Off-Broadway 2 year hit, Shut Up Sit Down & Eat, NY and LA premieres of Revisiting Wildfire, the NY premiere of Voices Of Swords, Ronnie Spector's Beyond The Beehive, Waiting For Jack – A Beat Poetry Reunion, Claiming Allen Ginsberg, and Suzanne Wang's Cracked Open. Eve has also directed many Jewish Women's Theater. shows: Stories From the Fringe, Saffron and Rosewater, Hold Me, Heal Me, He Said, She Said, Past & Present: Russian Jewish American Stories. Beyond Jacob's Ladder, More Courage – Muslim & Jewish Stories and Crossing Our Red Sea. And Los Angeles and New York premieres of Barra Grant's Miss America's Ugly Daughter, about her relationship with her mother, Bess Myerson.
The Lost Weekend documentary
editThe Tribeca Film Festival announced the 2022 premiere of The Lost Weekend: A Love Story, a 97-minute documentary about May Pang's life and relationship with John Lennon, on June 10 via virtual home viewing. The film was produced and directed by Eve Brandstein, Richard Kaufman and Stuart Samuels. The Lost Weekend appeared in theaters internationally for a limited run April 13th and 14th 2023 and is available via streaming on Amazon Prime, YouTube, Apple TV, Fandango, and on BluRay.
