In February 2023, Emrich introduced House Bill 235, which looked to prohibit science educators from teaching "subject matter that is not scientific fact" and allow school boards to "review all science materials to be sure they only use “scientific fact" in a "strictly enforced and narrowly interpreted" manner.[2][3][4] It received heavy opposition from students, educators, and representatives of the Board of Public Education, who argued that it would inhibit the instruction of established scientific theories such as climate change, gravity, and cell theory.[2][3][4]
